Here are some interesting "First Posts" to the HI Forum by some now regular visitors. Some are funny, some are memorable, and some are just plain weird.

On that note, let's start with...

Hi everyone!
My name is Chris and I live in Windsor (Ft. Collins) Colorado. This whole computer thing is new to me so I hope I send this right! My screen name is SkagSig40. I used my old nickname and favorite pistol to come up with it. I thought it sounded ok. I'm excited to talk with all of you. I've been following the forum for some time now on a friends computer. I just now got my own. I bought my first khukuri from Uncle Bill back in 1993 and have been hooked ever sence! I now have a respectable collection and a few "war stories" to traid with all of you fine folks! could someone please respond to this letter so I know I'm doing all this right? thank you!!! Can't wait to talk to all of you!!

Hi all

Im looking for advice on getting a HI Khukuri but have never seen one so the choice is difficult. Any help appreciated !!!

OK!!! Because I was TOLD to find an inexpensive Khukri by Cliff
Stamp, I got this thing on eBay. It should arrive in 10 days.
For the price, anything they send me will be fine.
But, I'm told it has GHORKA ARMY stamped on it, and the number 124.
It could well be tourist junk, or some clone.... But, does anyone have an opinion of what I got here. I was told it was approximately 14 inches long. The pommel cap has crossed khuks
Thanks....

Uncle Bill,

On my second day of using the 20" AK, and already have blisters on 2 fingers! Not from poor handle design, but more from Chopping madness the big AK produced!
Anyway thanks to you and the Kamis for such a great blade.

Aloha!

Just wanted to say hi after lurking for a while and enjoying the news and views of this forum. I look forward to a long and fruitful (!?) case of HIKV. I just sent away my money for Uncle Bill to keep an eye out for a nice matched pair of AKs, to be a gift for myself and my best man just before my impending nuptuials...

Besides salivating at some of the pics posted (especially Alan's "Ashley"), my first sign of HIKV was at the mall yesterday. After a long deathmarch carrying packages for SHMBO through the teeming crowd, I did a triple-take and near heart-attack at seeing the words Himalayan Imports atop one of the little mid-corridor kiosks. "Excellent" I thought in my haze, "Uncle Bill finally got a distributor, and right here in town too." But then I was crushed as it turned out to be just touristy stuff allegedly from Nepal... Oh well at least I can dream...

edit: changed the title just for you Yvsa! I knew it would get some of you riled up, and here I am defenceless with no khukuri

No, in fact, Hindus are never circumcised. Semites (Jews, Muslims) are the only religious practioners of circumcision I'm aware of. Circumsion for 'medical' reasons by non-Semites is most common in America (lots of Jewish doctors??). Pretty strange practice one way or another if you ask me.

In Hindu-Muslim riots in India the presence or absence of a fore-skin is in fact one way that the two groups sometimes distinguish one another for certain (when they're trying to figure out who to kill or set on fire, &c.).

Cheers, B.

Hi, is there any chance that there will be a HI M43? I would really like to get an M43 in a few months.

Also, I would like to say that this is one of the best furums that I've ever been to. Keep up the good work

Pappy
I know an old man that would sure like to have a kuk.

This is sort of a windy post but I'd like to give the folks who don't know me a little background.

Well, here I am with another forum to moderate. In keeping with my policy of basic honesty, I really was not crazy about doing another forum. The two I have on the other site keep me pretty busy and on top of that I get a lot of email to answer. And, I'm supposed to be retired!

So, why did I do it? I'll tell you.

Himalayan Imports has been in business 11 years and during that time we have developed a decent reputation. We sell the best khukuri being made in Nepal today and we unconditionally guarantee it for life. Customers tell us our customer service is second to none. But these kudos we receive are not free. We had to earn them and we worked very hard to develop the fine reputation we have. Now, here's the rub.

In the past month or two I have had folks copy pictures of the HI khukuris off our site and paste them on their own site and hold the HI khukuri up as their product. Over on Ebay there are people selling khukuris and listing the seller as Himalayan Imports. It is not us.

My theory is the best defense is a good offense so rather than attacking these people and trying to check every site on the net to see who is trying to pawn themselves off as Himalayan Imports it's better to go on the offense and tell as many people as I can reach who and what we are.

I realize that imitation is the sincerest form of compliment but imitation is one thing and impersonation and deception is quite another.

So, here we are, the REAL Himalayan Imports.
I'm Bill Martino, the general manager which means I sit at the screen and answer the phone. My wife, Yangdu, does everything else. The owner of HI is Kami Sherpa, Yangdu's dad. We make our khukuris down in SE Nepal at a shop with a dirt floor and no modern conveniences and they are the best being made in Nepal today.

As moderator of this forum all I ask is that we do not use profane language and that we do not make personal attacks. We can argue, discuss, disagree, spout or likes and dislikes until the cows come home if we follow only those two basic rules of conduct.

If you have not checked out our websites you might want to if you would like to know more about us and our khukuris. Here's the url:

http://members.aol.com/himimp/index.html

But the easy was is use Yahoo and search for khukuris or Himalayan Imports.

Questions, comments, welcome all. Since our khukuris are a product of history, culture, Gurkhas and religion the doors are wide open.

HIMALAYAN IMPORTS (the real one!)

you've come a long way, Bill...

Cool idea Dan:)

Are you gonna do more? Yvsa, John Powell, Steven F.,Rusty, etc....etc..? I'll search for a few when I get some time if you want.

Some of the old-timers (and a few of the newbies) didn't really have funny/interesting posts.

They were way too serious...

:D:D

And you never got the second opportunity to make the first impression, huh? I swear, in my next lifetime I'll be just like Bruise :)

mPisi - you are correct. I've updated it. I copied the wrong page somehow..

My first post probably said, "I'll take it, email sent!!" or something along those lines.

actually, Mike, yours was boring....:D:D

Who made your Chiruwa? I just got one last week (my first khuk), also with a horn handle. It has Sanu's mark. I immediately decided it needed a companion and ordered an 18" GS. In my case I suspect the HIKV will outlast the savings. Such is life!

I don't know. But he is the guy who carries the, "where the circle meets the square." at the bottom of his every page. That oughta cut the rest of us a lot of slack.

Thanks for reminding me, BL!

I still like that picture. It is telling me a lot about a guy in the picture.:)

One is proud as a new Papa and the other bedazzled as Alice in Wonderland. All for a peice of steel. Go figure. Bill said once he thought it was because of the blood and sweat that goes into the Khuks.
