Hi All, thought id share my latest find out of my local building reuse it center, i stop in from time to time for all sorts of project needs around the house and potential knife related scores, the owner tinkers with blacksmithing so he likes old anvils, hammers, saw blades, etc, and is always trying to bid on lots that contain these types of items. Any how i was making my rounds and noticed a small machined wheel hanging out of some box with ac ducting, i got excited and pulled this guy out!!
Now i instantly knew they were all 2" well made little wheels with high end bearings, i checked the motor and its a dayton 1hp, 220v, 3 phase 3450rpm, written right there was 95 bucks!! SOLD. I started checking its functions and noticed the ferree band instrument, and tool co.?? Smart phone to the rescue turns out its there heavy duty belt sander that runs 2x72 belts and is used to work on instruments that need sanding and polishing! Im pretty sure im gonna work out an horizontal set up out of it swap the motor to 120 and through a vfd on it!

VFD's dont work with 120v , you will use the 3 phase motor with a VFD

No doubt on using a 3 ph for the vfd just not this one as my shop isnt set up for 220v.
I forgot to mention the 220 on first post.

Ive already started the creation... ive got an old flat platen off a wilton im gonna mount on it, its gonna take so time to commit to the final design, but i built my own 2x72 and loved every second!!

Somebody else with more knowledge hopefully will respond, but the way I understand it you can use the motor you have with a VFD using 110 current. I dont think you "have to have " 220 volt until you go over 1 1/2hp ??

Your absolutely right the vfd will kick my extra leg for this motor, and im gonna be using a teco vfd to run it.
The single hp might be my one draw back on keeping this motor still.

No expert but my 120v 1hp motor is pretty darn good on my NWG that I just built. Can really put some pressure on it. Not sure how that would translate with a vfd controlling that motor. Not sure if you lose any power or not.
