Has anyone seen this on WE Knives' Instagram page yet? I am very curious as to how this is done, and would love to do it to some of my own folders if it's feasible.

I don't really know what's going on here, other than it may be a coating of some sort or might be a layer of titanium oxide grown onto the titanium in a selective fashion? That or it's polished selectively? I asked them but so far have no response.

Here's that same pattern anodized, and one with what appears to be a larger grained version of the same pattern. The knife is a WE Knife 702 model.

What do you all think? And does anyone know what the heck this finish is?

I'll pass but it's definitely interesting.

I'd like to see some other renditions of this vein down the road. I'm just not a fan of this one, too glittery.

Yeah, I mean the specific implementation could stand to be changed, but I think the idea itself is pretty novel and neat.

There are more test pieces on their instagram, with one of the backgrounds showing dozens. WE seems to be pushing the envelope, obviously with such unique pieces, it'll have some people that love it and others that hate it.

I don’t really care for the disco ball look of the thing, but I’m interested mainly in the appearance of the texture. It looks hella grippy and I’m all for that on a Ti handle.

I’m gonna stay tuned here as I have one Ti framelock in particular that could use a little more grip (it’s slick as goose sh!t with a squirt of WD-40). I hope they could tone down that gawd awful glittery shine though with whatever process this is.

:p Makes we wanna glue sparkly glitter all over my blackout knives !

I think you'd have better results just etching the titanium on whatever knife you want more grip on. It gives it sort of a blasted feeling if you intentionally over-etch.

This finish looks like it'd probably be pretty smooth to the touch.

So it’s just glittery but smooth? Pfffft! I thought it was heavily textured like sandpaper. Meh - no texture, no care.
