Interesting knife...

Yvsa, you are a lucky son of a gun.

Yes Red, I am, but even better is that I also have a lot of brothers on this forum who care for me much more than I ever thought anyone ever would or could including my own blood, although some may not show up as often as they used to.:)

Thanks for links Red!!:)

The first one is the only place that I found that had carbon steel nontrons. They do cost considerably more than Opinels but they are pretty interesting. Here's a cool link about the company.

Now, I'm off to peruse those other links you've provided!

I've seen that article. I keep thinking writing for a catalog. I did find the website for the Nontron's parent company but it's all in
french.

Good stuff Red!

Wow, these guys have the sh*t!!:)
(As long as one doesn't need a locking blade)

But I'll have to save up some $$...

The Italian site has good stuff too, though only one locks, and it's pretty spendy!

(Sorry Aard--share my pain, I'm not going to tell you the price...:p )

Sad, to say this site is depressing...:(

I guess my search for a not overly ornate racheting navaja (lever or ring release) in something better than "440 stainless" continues....Though these guys do have a couple of more gawdy ones in 440C.

Firkin, those Navajas sure are nice, until you see the 'stainless' part. Love the shapes.

That 'canary knife' makes me want to slice some vegetables. Or sell it and buy a restaurant.

Those Nontrons are fascinating, too. Actually the most tempting of the lot.

The Miniatures page is very tempting.

$10-$20 for small versions
(not really what I'd call miniatures)
of many of the knives.

I don't have the link to the Canary Islands Knive's I once had, but as much as I admired those beauties I could never loose the purse strings enough to buy one.
Crimeny but those things are expensive!!!! I can see why with all the detail work on the handles with the precision fitting.
The blades are incredibly thin and hand forged from good High Carbon Steel and not much good for anything except sliceing fruit or vegetables with their super, super thin blades.
Still mighty beautiful pieces though and very ornate!!!! I still love to see them, but I don't regret not getting one or two.:)
The way I understand there's supposed to be or was an American here in the states that was making true facsimiles, but he was pretty proud of his too. :(

I really like some of those Italian ones for a slipjoint, though the couple that are friction folders or have a lever like a straight razor would put me off a bit for some uses. Not to mention that the Law would probably say that they where illegal for carry.:(

Didja notice that that it looks like some are put together with steel rivets peened over softer brass washers so as not to damage the horn? :)

Conaz does make some nice looking knives. Firkin, the one you showed is cheeper the some of the others on that page. I have found some of the stainless bladed ones on other sites for less than the company's site but no one seems to have the carbon steel models.:(

Some of the Lagioule knives in Scandvick are preety reasonable.
