interesting manix differences -- straight v serrated

I got a new straight edge Manix last week. My friend liked it so much he ordered a partially serrated one this week. There are a few interesting differences between them:

1. The machined in grip area on the base of the spine where you can put your thumb:

mine: many straight, thin machined lines (13 of em)
his: 3 large, raised ridges -- they look pretty cool

I wonder if the serrated comes that way for better purchase when sawing stuff.

2. Opening action

mine: very smooth all the way through
his: there is a resistance spot -- it almost feels like a ball detent lock,
after which it opens smoothly. He actually likes it -- I wasn't sure if it was a defect or intentional.

Its also interesting to note that neither has its blade perfectly centered in the handle when closed. Neither rub, but its not centered.

I would compare more but us standing around the office looking at them is well... a little crazy looking...

The two different jimpings are due to the model being slowly improved. The finer jimping is the most recent. As for the difference in action, I guess that's just luck of the draw.
