Interesting mix of old and new

We've had the discussions about traditional vs. modern knives, but it is interesting how widely across the board traditional and modern mix in many areas of our daily lives.

After posting photos to Pete's Case collections thread, I glanced down at the sun shining on the table next to me, and thought the table contained an interesting mix of old and new items I was using.

1973 Case 6332 stockman, which I had just used to open some packaging;

Pelikan 800 fountain pen, which I had been using all morning as I worked from home (c'mon, how many people work with pen and paper today, let alone a fountain pen?!);

Sony flash drive, which holds all my knife pictures;

Blackberry smartphone, which is my personal secretary/data assistant/communication tool (although some would question the "smart" part of using a 3 year old BlackBerry!);

Starbucks coffee mug, not filled with Starbucks coffee! -- I like their ceramics, not their coffee -- sitting on a North Carolina Brewers Guild coaster (I am quite happy with the availability of fresh coffee beans from around the world and craft brewed beers, both of which are modern conveniences).

I am glad I don't have to choose between traditional, time-tested products such as older Case knives and fountain pens, and modern conveniences such as the internet and smartphones. Either/or living is simply too restrictive.
