Interesting Point of View on Terrorism

Fandorin,

"...I live in Toronto where the city is half paralized by SARS now...."

now, now....don't let the media get to you. Are you aware of the number of children that died as a result of plain old chicken pox last year? or perhaps the number of "old" people (>65) that die each year as a result of influenza?

This is a quote from http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/pphb-dgspsp/... som e good discussion - that was the intent.

Fandorin, I'm sorry about your father. Unlike chemical and biological attacks, contamination from nuclear accidents/attacks is sinister, causing far more long-term casualties.

Diligence, I completely agree with what you're saying. You're more likely to die crossing the street than from SARS, let alone drive a car or catch the flu. The media doesn't run many stories on those deaths, do they? I guess it's freaking people out because there's no "cure" and acronym diseases sound scary (like AIDS). We should make all efforts to find a treatment and control the spread of the disease, but needless hype is hurting economies already.

Diligence,
I absolutely agree with you that in terms of physical effect on population SARS has not been that significant. I was referring to the social effect that it has produced. I am a physiotherapist and last week we had to close clinic completely, no one wanted to come. This week we are slowly trying to get some people back. Chinese restaurants are suffering too. I think that most of people are worried because the full potential of the virus has not been yet realized. Besides some people who died were not that old. One was 44 another 57. But again as I mentioned before if this virus can produce such a social effect ,immagine smallpox or plague.
