i have been looking around this site for the last few years. it was one of the first sites i found when i first started getting into survival and looking for guides to making kits.

M4040

now that i have done plenty of camping and have a decent collection of blades, i see that alot of things he writes about come across as "arm chair commando" to me, but there are still some relevant points on his site and some interesting material.

at the very least its good for a laugh if you happen to totally disagree.

i believe the survival quiz on his site was posted a while back that alot of people took.

i see now that i just went to copy the link that he has added a few pages that i need to check out.

just thought i would post this up for what its worth.

I like that site. Actually I found it before I found BF. It led me to khukuri's and they led me to the HI section here, and those guys tought me to make knives.

He's way off on his khukuri thoughts though. Those crap knives he talks of. Yikes. Then he talks about real good khuks not exsisting.

Oh well. Nothing is perfect. The rest of his site is great. And I love how he rags the environmental crowd. Haha.

Ok that little haha at the end of your comment was HILARIOUS! Just struck me as a great ending.

I found that site before BF also.
When I was younger I thought he was god, and like Siguy I got alot of information from it to get started out in survival.
Now I disagree with several of his philosophies.
For instance, I was a devout follower of the big chopper crowd when I came here always carrying a knife atleast 10in in length and a multitool.
Now a carry a busse CE HR(convex edge, 7in blade, a remarkable light and good cutter), a gerber hatchet, and a case hunter trapper.

As an intelligent environmentalist, and having watched a lot of yuppie environmental eejits get to UCDavis here and become intelligent environmentalists- I think ragging on environmentalism in general is silly. specific psuedo-environmentalists, maybe.

Come on, Teddy was an environmentalist!

And, well, I'm a Don in the Thin Blade Mafia. I like the 5-6 inch blades, sure, and the 4 inchers. But mostly pretty thin.

Good site in general, though, I've browsed it a lot- I've been working on a survival tin knife, just a bit upgraded......

There's this bay on the Allegheny River that I backback to every two years or so. I have to pick up a quadrajillion beer cans to see the beach. Boaters using the Gravity Method of Trash Disposal (Open hand.) That pisses me off. Does that make me an "environmentalist"? If so, good. :grumpy:
