Interesting survival folder would fit in an Altoids tin...

not a thing, the saw is a little on the small side though :)

But its 100% bigger than no saw...

I've been using the Victorinox Huntsman in my (non Altoids) tins, and having read so much about the Alox Farmer, and never having seen one in the metal, I bought one, and its certainly worth its weight in gold.

Its one solid, versatile little knife, which I now appreciate having in my kits.

I got to handle one of these at EMS before Christmas. It was neat but the liner lock was flimsy. It even flexed a tiny bit with some pressure. I would have bought it for my daughter otherwise. If they only thicken the liner by a fraction, it would be a winner in my book.

if you clear tape a button compass to the base of a miniBic, you can fit a...
Vic Farmer
miniBic/compass
TOPS ferro/magnesium rod
hacksaw blade section/safety pins, heavy needle taped together
4 quarters taped in a strip
mini pencil
tweezers
AAA battery spare for Gerber Tempo
Fox mini whistle and Photon micro light (ringed to knife) and fit under top flap

all fit in a Gerber multi tool belt pouch, which to me is a lot more comfortable than a hard sided container

My Altoid tin packs a 3/16" firesteel, Fenix E01 (AAA), Vic SAK Tinker, foil wrapped aspirin and Benadryl, bagged assortment of fish hooks, a twist top small pill bottle containing petroleum soaked cotton balls and wrapped with 10 ft 10lb test fishing line, two folded sealed alcohol swipes, and three Bandaids. The inside top & bottom of the tin were polished for emergency signalling mirror use.

The SAK is just a better knife - with extras. Love my 'Farmers' - but tweezers for removing stingers are just important to me.

Ive been wanting a place to keep the Farmer. Im buying some Altoids later today.

Way too small for me, but for 20 bucks and AUS8? Not bad. It will be a gateway knife for sure, for the lite backpacker crowd. I'll show it to my local REI store, maybe they could get some good sales with that.

Got a link to the newspaper article?

Shouldn't be too hard. They already sell the adventure medical kits stuff. Plus gimmicky is right up rei's ally for blades. Don't get me wrong, they have some decent knives but nothing that really attracts the attention of minimalists who wouldn't think twice about buying $150 customs like myself.

I'm not too sure that I would need a knife in an Altoids tin PSK, I EDC 3 already and if I don't have my EDC items with me then I probably wouldn't have my PSK either. Actually if I don't have my EDC knives then I've forgotten my pants.
