Interesting take on the sticky lock of the 0560...

I've been following most of the sticky lock/strong detent threads on the 0560 and none of it concerned me.

So when I got my 0560 in today and it had a sticky lock, I was not concerned. Then I noticed that it was sticking in an area I didn't expect. Every comment I've seen on here was the lock sticking to the tang. I have the newer style with thin cutout and the lock bar is actually rubbing the frame.

It has already smoothed out a lot so I'm not concerned, I just hadn't seen someone with that type of sticky lock.

Here is a pic showing where it was rubbing.

I guess the new models have a weaker detent now from all the bitching. I have to say that I'm honestly not a fan. It's not quite weak enough that it shakes out with ease but I can open it super easy with the blade stops. As a result, the blade does not 'fly' out as I have seen in a lot of the videos. It doesn't seem to deploy any faster or smoother than my 0200.

I still love the knife, just sad to see KAI bend to the will of a few ding bats.

What is it specifically that is adjusted on these knives to make their detent weaker ? Is it something that can be changed by ZT/KAI if a customer requests it ?

My only gripe with big blade knives are the ones with weak detents. With a tip up flipper it would suck if that thing opened in your pocket. Also the strong detent was a great feature because the blade flew open pretty strong with a strong detent.

I have no idea, perhaps they just tap the ball bearing in a little further so it does sit as deep in the blade when it is closed.

I am expecting my 0560 to finally come in this week. I really hope it still has the strong detent. I found a 0561 at a local shop with a strong detent. Unfortunately they wanted over msrp.

The detent on my 0560 is strong, can't even use the thumbstud which is fine with me and it is more of a stop. I prefer the flipper anyway. Overall, I like the detent on mine.

The Lockbar on my was sticky at first, but it was my first Ti framelock so I did not know there was a break-in period and a quick remedy for it: rubbing the tang/lockbar with a pencil (lead) and it was smooth open/close. Now the 0560 it nearly broken in and it is smooth.

I solely use the flipper to deploy it, I just made the comment about how easy it is to use the blade stops considering that is what people complained about. The weak detent actually makes it harder to deploy using the flipper.

My lock is not sticking at the lockbar to tang surface, it is sticking at the lock bar to frame surface. I think was causes it is the thin cut line and considering the lock bar and the g10 sit flush, I have to push down slightly to get enough purchase on the lockbar to disengage it. I think when I do that, I am pushing the lockbar into the frame.

Scurvy,

Last night I dug up a thread about how ZT may be able to make the detent stronger on your knife. I would send that one back to them if you would like a stronger detent.

We've had a few come back with detent requests, mostly wishing they were softer. It's very difficult if not impossible for us to dial in a detent to your personal desires. Every one with a detent adjustment requested was within tolerances. The heavy detent ones were spot on, yet returned. Not sure what to really say here, or if we can have individual satisfaction with detents.

Oh yea, we had two returned in pieces cause they couldn't put the disassembled 056X back together...Speak up, it's ok...:)

Thanks for the reply Thomas. To be honest, I'm not really that concerned with the detent. I just wanted to make a point that I was sad that KAI, IMHO, reduced the quality of the knife to appease some people who couldn't get it right (or learn that the blade stops are not thumb studs).

Is there any need for concern with the lock rubbing the frame as in the picture I posted?

Id hate to see the frustration these people would have with a chinese finger trap or a set of legos.

There has been no internal discussion or decisions about not having/going away from a stronger detent set up. There are just going to be variances one way or another with each individual knife.

What about the rubbing?

Please tell me you're joking......

I am being completely genuine when I say this, not trying to be rude at all....... If a person cannot figure out how to reassemble the ZT 056x, then I sincerely worry about their cognitive state. Not only is it painfully easy to do, it's just common sense. Seriously, that makes me lose a little bit of my faith in humanity. How can something so simple be so hard for some?

ETA: The above sounds malicious, but I didn't mean it to be. I guess I'm just shocked at the apparent.........lack of........you know.... that people have.

I agree with CTS. How hard is it to do the reverse of what you did to take the knife apart. I'm not trying be be mean at all.

Maybe some of us have a little more CS than others.

Agree 100% across the board.

What about the rubbing?
The rubbing could be a cause if you're pushing the lockbar down into the other side of the thin cutout. I would think a small adjustment in how you're pushing when unlocking would test it to confirm.

Big screw goes in the big hole, small screws go in the small holes. Reassembled! But with some of the comments here I picture the poster as a child covered in their own drool pounding their square block against the triangular hole and screaming that it's a factory defect. Don't you?

[*I suspect some people here picture ME as that child! I admit, sometimes I am!]

I'll admit some of my auto knives were tricky to put back together. Not so much to figure out, more of a wish I hand another hand type situation.

I'll also admit to hate working on small stuff. I work on machines and hydraulics mainly.

But I agree with CTS. How hard could it be?
