Interesting Tech Question?

Don't know why I never thought of it before.

I must either;

a.) Stay up too late.
b.) LOVE my MoJo too much!

Probably the latter.

BTW JERRY: I changed the name of mine to the "Bussewhacker"!

Here's the question;

What is the heat resistance of the crinkle coating upon full cure?

i.e. if I stick my campfire hot dog or marshmellow with it and place it on, or right over the fire, will it damage the coating.

Could elements of the coating enter my food from "flashoff" (yes, for those of you who did not pay attention in Chemistry Class, that is a Chemistry term for the evaporation of chemicals)

This lack of sleep is really beginning to effect my cognative abilities, isn't it?

BTW: I did mention how much I like my MoJo didn't I?

I worked out the right arm extracting and inserting the MoJo into and out of its sheath today. Tomorrow morning I'll get around to the left arm.

uh oh......the wife is coming.......those are pretty deliberate heal strikes........better go........

Looking forward to the answer Jerry or Moderator of choice. It just occured to me and I am not trying to be wise.......really.

I think that if you put a Busse on or next to a fire, having the coating flake off will be the least of your worries. If you put the Busse on/next to the fire, I think there's a good chance that it will badly damage the heat-treat. If you leave the blade in the fire for long enough, it will get to be 400 degrees, and then the heat treat will be ruined.

Good point Andrew. I thought about that after the post (heat treat issue).

But I wasn't sure what the heat treat temp was and whether a campfire could equate.

What if you had to cauterize(sp?) a wound?

Just thinkin'

Thinking bad. Gives headache.

If you have to cauterize a wound, you have more problems then worrying about the coating or temper of the blade. I think you may have watched to many old westerns. "Aw shucks Mam. It's only a scratch."

I think that would be "too" many westerns and I don't watch'em.

Ok man, your the wise guy for today. Too bad someone can't just "ask a simple question" around here.

I am not really worried about cauterizing a wound (I saw Papillon again on TNT or something the other night and it came to mind), I am just curious what temp resistance the coating has. It just seemed like a normal question to wonder how much it could take. But since it has been brought up, how much CAN the blade take before the Heat Treat is ruined/effected?

GPB,
Good Questions. I did a search and came up with one thread that might help in regards to the temp of the Blade.
Here it is: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=136030&highlight=heat+treat

I think I have read a couple others similar to this I will continue searching for.

As far as the coating goes I have no idea how to answer that and I haven't found it in a search. However, I know that Cliff Stamp bit one of his knives when he first got it and the coating doesn't seemed to have hurt him :D (I don't recall if any even came off)
I will continue looking and hopefully Jerry or Cliff could give us some more info on the coating question.

BTW, My daughter likes to say the coating is "non-come-offable" I think it fits. :D
