Interesting test on 3V using S!K with Peter's HT (Industry Standard)

I will definitely be in for an S!K Keffeler collaboration. Can only see miracle blades appearing when it happens.

Been busy with work so I am late to the discussion. This test is verybcool to see but the only way to really show a difference is to eliminate all variables except heat treat. So take three blade blanks, all identical and run different HT protocols on them. Then do testing with edge deformation, corrosion resistance and lateral stress. So while it is very nice to see 3V perform so well, it is not a scientifically accurate or repeatable experiment. It is even difficult to establish a metric to use to compare the results. Either way... The video just reaffirms my belief that 3V is one of, if not the best blade steel out there.

...lol... drink your coffee and then go back and look again...

Yes it does. And his parabolic-ground kitchen knives look great, and the shivs look cool, and........and, I've got to stop hunting on Fridays and get serious about scoring them. But with the amount of time I get to spend outside, that field knife is the one that I keep coming back to. Any input from Mr. Carothers into the Survive! line is going to be valuable.

[QUOTE BTW your field knife looks great.[/QUOTE]

Nathan's field knife does look great. i only suggest to deepen the choil or back the grind a bit. it's only a matter of time before my stones will it the plunge grind from sharpening.

I'd really like to get a field knife as well. Not super easy when they sell out in 2-3 minutes after the sale post is put up. I'm really looking forward to Nathan's light chopper.

Once the "chopper" heat treat is dialed in, is the idea that blades above a certain length will receive one heat treat while below receives a different, or will all see the new heat treat?

Curious on Nathan's blades as well as the Survive blades (assuming no scaling issues).

So if I want to get a Nathan field knife, might the heat treat they receive be different a month from now?

So far been unsuccessful getting a 5.0 but somehow scored a field knife in time.
