Noticed this thread on the (now closed) Strider forum.

The Strider appears to win there, but interesting to see that CRK customer service is one of the main issues, while this forum does nothing but rave over that service (including myself).
It also mentions the Lenny thread, of which I never got to read the start of (since it's removed), but found it on www.archive.org

Was the final outcome of that that Lenny admitted to have filed the lockbar?

Anyway, still extermely happy with my Sebenza, just re-assembled it yesterday and lubed it with Militec-1. Anyone else here using that?

Also noticed that Anne/CRK hasn't posted for a long time now??

Cheers,
Ted

I too have noticed that there have not been any Reeve family postings in a while... Shot Show and all... kindof a bummer as we all enjoy Anne's clear head, encouragement and good company.. but understandable at the same time.

I use Miltec1 too... I've has my BG42 sm.seb for two years and have used it every time I've cleaned/lubed. It's smooth as butter... I've also acquired a Mnandi and new Sm.seb recently which obviously came with the flourinated grease from the CRK shop. I sent the small back to the shop for some special attention and have experienced nothing but the best of human interaction with Bridget. I'm having some of the flourinated grease sent back with the seb because I have really enjoyed the feel of the new knife w/ grease not being so silky smooth as with the Miltec1. We'll see.

First, I believe Lenny bent, not filed the lockbar.

Secondly, nobody came out and said it at the time as I recall, but I'll say it now, bending the lock bar was a dumbass thing to do. Lenny was satisfied with the outcome, that his he paid some money and they (CRK) made a new side for him.

Thirdly, IMO, irrational service claims are often made, in all the forums for all the manufacturers. Then other people site them as reason for doing this or that. It's unfortunate but some things wrong or unsubstantiated take on a life of their own, especially when people are too lazy to find out the facts and or make thoughtful judgements.

does anybody knows if the flourinated grease that chris reeves sells is the same thing as the tetra gun grease, the tetra gun grease is marketed as a fluropolymer penetrating hevy-duty grease lubricant, so I guess if it is the same thing

I hope I am not going to be flamed here but I keep looking at scans of the strider folders to try and work out what all the fuss is about and have not managed yet!

I will be the first to say that plain sebenza's are not, in themselves, classicly beautiful knives (beautiful in how they function and waht they do YES) but the strider folders are just plain UGLY, althought they do have a hole as well as a stud in their favour :D

Do any of the sebenza holics here own striders as well? and if so what do they think please?

Strider folders have to be held and used to be appreciated. I have an AR and a spearpoint Model 2 SnG. The ergonomics are incredible.

Well...The Strider-line is the current "must have" of many (from collectors to wannabes). Similar to the Emerson or Mad Dog or Busse craze a few years ago. The Sebenza will be around when the Strider fades away...

Lynn - have you a picture of a spear point you can post or email me?

I have only seen the tanto ones and I HATE tanto blades :D

Harvey, I don't have a use for Tanto folders, either. I just emailed you a bunch of Model 1, Model 2 and Model 3 SnGs. I'll post 2 pictures of the Model 2 SnG (#028, mine is #022) here...

I'm interested in the SnG but I have a few Reeve folders. for $400 I would :barf: if it were less of a knife.

I'm not sure I understand this.

Lenny bent the lockbar, and it didn't lock correctly anymore.

I am assuming thus that he bent it outwards, i.e. away from the blade (toward the clip, the reverse side).

CRK said that this wasn't fixable, and then charged him some sum of money (how much was it?) to simply replace the knife wholesale, rather than the slab with the lockbar (or better, just repair it?)

I must be missing something -- please clarify. :)

Thanks!

flippin heck Lynn - are they all yours???????

You nearly maxed out my hotmail box :D

Is that a large mayonised sebenza?

You wouldn't happen to mean this Mayonized Sebenza would you?

that looks a lot like it to me but I am not sure?

Can you send me them both so I can do a poper comparison :D

Well, I started the original thread in the Strider forum a few weeks ago, asking for people who have owned both, to say which they liked better, the Sebenza or the SnG.

Now, first, let me say that I am a big fan of the Sebenza, always have been, i believe no production knife, and few custom knives are so consistantly flawless in fit and finish, i have yet to ever see a new Sebenza that didnt have virtually perfect fit and finish, and to me, thats pretty remarkable, because i have seen a bunch. They may be a little plain looking, but i believe theyre a beautifully made knife, and i dont think my box elder large is plain anyway.

I am also however, now, a pretty enthusiastic Strider fan, having bought my first, an SnG a little while back and now i own a few, and i really do like them a lot.

First, to address the assertion that the SnG is ugly, well, i dont agree, i think theyre actually very neat looking, with nice lines, i really like the colored finish and tiger stripes on the first run SnG's, though i think the current stonewashed version is perfect for a user knife, and the SnG's have a very agressive look and feel to them, which becomes more apparent when you see/hold one in person, very different from the understated refinement of the Sebenza. Its like the Sebenza is laid back, refined and well mannered, while the SnG is agressive, robust and, well, ballsy. Visually, they do have different characters.

On the other hand, since when did a knife have to be pretty to work well? Most people think the Glock is ugly, i dont see it that way, knowing how ingenious the mechanism is and how well it works, their appearance to me, becomes appealing, and to me, they have a very simple, purposeful look, which i find attractive, in a utilatarian way, and its the same with the SnG, its a great knife, strong, rugged, agressive and i find it visually appealing in that same utilitarian way as i do the Glock.

Yes, the SnG is about $50 more than a Sebenza, and you may or may not end up preferring it to the Sebenza, thats a matter of taste, as is always the case, but, i do feel that they are both extremely well made and strong knives with a lot to offer. One thing i will say is that if you love the vault-like lockup of the Sebenza, and i know i sure do, you may be equally impressed with the SnG's lockup, when i open mine, you can hear the loud, sharp "thunk" a mile away, its very satisfying and addictive, which is why i open and close my SnG all day long just for fun. :)

I truly cant say which is the better knife, and i certainly cant predict whether you will think its better than a Sebenza, all i CAN say is that the SnG and Sebenza are both great knives, its up to you to decide which YOU like better.

Well, I guess that I'll never know which one I like better. I went to Knife Expo '03 in Buena Park and talked to the Strider guys. The feeling is that there is not a very good chance that they will not be coming out with a left hand SnG. I'm bummed but I understand that making left hand folders is just not economically feasable. I like to patronize companies that cater to us right hand challenged knife nuts. CRK gets my business. They make a great product.:D  :p

For such a serious use knife I'd have to have a lefty, because I am a lefty. Do they at least come with double thumb-lugs?
