not really surprising. Kind of like when the guy broke his rat trap while breaking ice with it. Stainless steel is not tough stuff. It was pretty thin where it broke.

Jeeze, knifeguy seems to have some beef with Busse in general. Sorry to see this happen, but Horndog had a good objective view and I expected it to continue through that thread but.....

btw, Reconseed, I still have leather for you, want it? :)

Like I said in the 'Yard' you can't heat treat 154 CM until it's as tough as INFI or SR101. It is brittle by nature and is suited for tasks involving slicing or cutting. I'm happy with mine and don't ask to borrow it to pry something!!!

I think that's the same knife. I hope too much doesn't get made out of this single incident. Things break- especially when you beat on them.

You are right moonwilson. My fault. Shouldnt have reposted the same link. :thumbdn:

Send me a PM man and let me know what all you have ready and we will do some business. I am needing some pants for a few knives so yes, I definitely would like to hear from ya man. :)

I'm a little dissapointed with these results. I wouldn't consider this abuse at all. I would of assumed with the Busse heat treatment that this 154 steel would be stronger than that.

Pleeeease don't let this turn into another Green Beret thread. If you use your knife like a chisel, hammer, prybar, ect, it can break. If you take the risk, you live with the results.

It might not all be the steel IMO. I don't have an LE but the point on my SE Harry Carry and the Mud Puppy seems a lot finer than any Scrapyard has ever made before. Most of the Scrapyard tips are plain chunky. These are slicers which a lot of us including me wanted. I don't think a Bog Dog tip would take as much as a Howling Rat either. I think we're comparing apples and oranges a little bit, just my opinion. And it is still guaranteed!!!Awesome.

Horn Dog was just testing his new Rat. The Swamp claims to be the toughest production knives out there..

"The performance of these knives will amaze you. There is absolutely no competition in the high production knife field for these blades. None, whatsoever!" Jennifer Busse

These knives are guaranteed and supposed to be top of the line. They ARE. The Swamp will make this right for Vic. He is a good customer of all the Busse knife companies. He will be treated as everyone else who buys from SRKW is - FAIRLY and Honestly.

As for this being 154CM.... I know for a fact that it isnt up to the abuse levels that SR101 can take. and THIS is why it broke IMO. Either way, he will be a happy camper and he IS a happy camper :)

What a shame. Tests like that make me want to quit making knives. Wrong tool for the job.

There are plenty of us out here who still like to use their knives for cutting things.

Thank God! I can see this test on a FFBM, but on a small slicer/bushcraft kinda knife??? I'm shocked they didn't call that abuse!

I dont think he meant to break it....so I dont know if I would call it "abuse" since in his mind he probably didnt think it so while he was doing it. After it broke he realized that he applied to much pressure to a knife that was not designed to do what he did. I have no problem with the fact that it broke, the steel and design werent meant for that. This probably wont be the last in 154cm we see broke, I am sure other people will do similar or worse either intentionally or on accident.
