This is for the Usual Suspects:

I have just taken delivery of a Ti blade CQC6 (from a repuable source). This has the single grind, green micata scales etc. Where it gets interesting is the blade markings. When you first look, you see the standard Specwar Knives logo with a 1998 date stamp. On looking more closely you can see the half moon Emerson Logo engraved on the blade.

I will post a photo later today when I get my camera setup.

1. Has anybody seen this knfe before and do they know anything of its "old" history?
2. Is this what happens when a knife is sent back for regrinding/ factory referbishment?
3. Does this qualify me to become a ususal suspect?

Regards,

Ed

Hey Edmoses

That knife used to be mine. I just sold it to your reputable source. I noticed the marking also.

If you use your search function you'll be able to see some scans I took of the knife. I don't think you can see the half-moon tho on the scans.

Let me know if you have anymore questions or what your thoughts maybe on the blade.

Interesting.

Ross, any idea of the history?

If I had to guess, I'd think that the blade may have been made several years prior to the knife being completed. Am I close?

Ed, nice score buddy

Hey Ed,
I had a shot at that baby and mistakenly passed. Nice acquisition. Enjoy it.

Hey Ed:

Nice knife! You trying to corner the market in CQC6's in Europe or something? How about sending something back to the States in exchange! Yeah, I've changed the inventory thread to show this knife!

To answer your question in another thread, you and DD1967 are the only collectors of customs in Europe that I know of. His latest activity that I'm aware of was his attempt to score a CQC5.

Several have been shipped to Europe (Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Austria, Sweden and of course England) Asia (Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and even Kuala Lumpur) and even a CQC6 to Israel and South Africa.

The RCC "usual suspects" are world wide.

Nice Picture,

How do you guys get your pictures to be so clear? I tired posting a picture. It took me 20 tries just to get it to appear, then it was all grainy. I had my graphic designer take the picture. Anyone help me out here? (I'm not technically inclined

)

Thanks in advance.

David,

Do you use Photopoint.com?

I usually mix my pictures using a photo program prior to posting them to Photopoint. It can make a world of difference in quality.

Here are some shots I took at the Blade Show.

I also do a lot of "studio" shots off my scanner. They usually come out a hair out of focus due to the blade not being flat against the glass, but their passable.

Example two
Example three

Thanks for the interest and the feedback.

Does anybody else have any blades with unusual markings that they can post a photo of?

Derek - any chance of asking Mr Emerson about the history of this blade and how many were made? (Please)

Regards,

Ed

John, Thanks alot for the tip. The pictures look great! I'm using photopoint. How do I get the picture to show up here. I tried the "
" thing, but it doesn't work. Here's the link:http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=927090&a=6770772&p=22751106

I apologize for going off topic here, but I'm trying to post a picture of a logo.
Thanks.

Ed,

Cool knife. I am curious as to the "double strike" as well. I will ask Ernie about it next time we speak. I am off to a show in beautiful New Jersey so I will not be back til next week so hang with me.

Take care,
Derek

Ed,
I think this should clear up the matter. I purchased a Tanto prototype some years back and it had a very faint logo on it. Apparently the blade was originally Black and the owner Beadblasted the coating off so he could have a satin finish blade. I showed it to Ernie at a show and he confirmed it was one of about five knives made. I asked to have it relogoed with the half moon but he said he no longer used that logo but he would put the Spec War logo as close as posible.
sorry for the long story but the knife came back and you could see the old logo just off the new.
I sold the knife a couple years ago so I can not send pics.

Hope this helps

Trader1,
I was cleaning my collection this weekend and noticed that on my black oxide prototype tanto the old Emerson logo appears to be lightly recessed into the blade like a deep etching. This would explain how it would survive the refinishing. I thought that the double stamp was odd but reading your post and looking at my knife makes good sense out of the whole thing.
