Just checked my User CP and found that someone (unsigned of course), objected to the following post that I made in response to Munk on Friday. Munk had emailed Yangdu about a horn Villager BGRS and I had e-mailed for the same knife about 15 minutes previously. Here was my response to Munk's request that the "shark step forward and take a bow", or something similar:

Uhh...!

I guess that would be me.

Munk, I had written to Yangdu a few weeks ago and asked her specifically if she could get me a 17 to 18" 26-28 oz. Villager BGRS with _horn_ handle. I said I would prefer 18" and 28 oz. For a long while that size has been hard to get for some reason, with most BGRS villagers running smaller, plus I have missed every one on the YBB sales. I have only emailed for a specific model 2 or 3 times in the past year, but was frustrated on always missing them.

Yangdu said she would see what she could do and placed an order. When I saw this one today I emailed within a few minutes of the posting and mentioned our past conversation and luckily it was still available!

I hope you will be able to snag another one soon!

Regards,

Norm

Aside from the fact that I believe that all thread comments should have the name be mandatory, I am trying to figure out what is offensive in this message.

I guess it's because I said I wrote Yangdu asking for a certain model? 99% of all my HI knives have either been bought on the HI site and paid full boat, or have been bought as a DOTD. This is the first time this year that I asked Yangdu to get me something, as I just had bad luck getting a full-sized horn BGRS Villager, and as it was I ended up getting it online just like everyone else, and competed for it just like everyone else.

Neither Munk nor anyone else was told "no" so that my original request could be honored. I sharked it in true HI fashion! ;)

Probably should have just let it go, but I am pretty much physically incapable of doing that! Just wanted to explain this to everyone, and am sorry that my post was obviously misinterpreted somehow.

Regards,

Norm

P.S. The only other explanation I can think of is that someone thinks I have enough khuks and should "give someone else a chance" as someone once said to me, but the number of khuks I have is irrelevant; like the guy just starting out, I didn't have this model. 'Nuff said.

Tnx.

FWIW, I have not gotten a single ding since I stopped looking at them (I'm certain they are there...I just don't see them any more).

In fact, the other day I got my first ever green chicklet that was blank...no comment at all.

The funny thing is...I am almost more curious about that one than the greys...

No explanation is needed Norm...everyone that matters knows that when you swim with the sharks, sometimes you go home hungry.

Good policy! I think I'll go that route myself from now on and avoid the issue, but I sometimes do like to see the posts that people respond to.

Was going to ask what 'n the hell you were doing up at 4 in the morning, and realized that it's 7 am. where you are. Couldn't sleep so was catching up, but guess I'll hit the hay now. Just have to pry the hound off my pillow!

Thanks Ray.

Yup. What Nasty said.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Norm,

Would you cut and paste whatever text accompanies the ding? I haven't given you karma lately, and I rarely leave bad, but I worry sometimes that I don't have enough juice to add to someone's farm, and I don't want them to think that I've dinged them. I sign them in a semi-concealed fashion...

I have seven green dots. If you could cash em' in for 3 cents apeice I'd have 21 cents. This is a lot of money. However, since no one is offering any money for green dots, I wouldn't fuss over them too much.

Check out my medals though. :)

I ignore unsigned gray rep squares- could be a spoiler, could be someone without oomph. Without a signature= who knows. There could be some lurking damaged individual dinging at random.

But I always sign rep to others, so ever somebody gets a gray from me, let me know- I've read Cougar's rep FAQ, but it seems to me you either give a green or get "You have given out too much rep in the last 24 hrs- try again later."

I ran out of rep to give on my "No more drinking" thread - or should I say- I ran dry.

I know one forumite who's minus 200+. He'd probably pay 4 cents each. :p

(This strangeness [Not you, Bruise.] seems to be going around. As some here know, I got dinged for commenting that the beautiful fullers on yesterday's specials explained the relatively light weight for length. Go figure. Maybe we have a "fuller" hater out there. )

I've no idea Norm. I remember that post. From the beginning of my attempt to get that blade, in the back of my mind I thought surely Norm or one of the other collectors would be ahead of me. It was no surprise. Your kind explanation was unneccesary of course, but hardly mean. Just the opposite. I'll give you some green to counteract the red. The only time I've given red I've signed my name. I think I gave red to bill the cat once because he wanted it.

Anyway, try not to let it bother you. I know we react to the red disproportionate to the impact. The unsigned is passive aggressive.

I don't know what kind of person would get upset because they got outsharked or because somebody asked Yangdu for a special order. Dinging somebody red without giving an explanation is a cowardly act. Certainly some folks need to grow up and get a life.

Are the green dots like green stamps?
I think my grammaw has a few books of those in the cellar next to the serving set she was collecting from the movie theatre every Saturday.
I like to give an attaboy now and then but I think the anonymity of the system is a bad idea.

I don't know...got to pay attentions to your medals after all...

*not*

LOL

ps: I sign mine in a secret fashion...looks like this ~Nasty. I especially make sure I sign the red ones for Bill the Cat.

When I signed up for the forums someone left me an unsigned red chit with a comment that didn't make any sense, something like, " Nice job John, We're watching your ass!"

What a great welcome to the forums.

By the way, my name isn't John.

Hmph.

For what it's worth, gray dots mean the opinion of the "dinger" doesn't have enough weight to count against you. I take solace in that, as most of my "neg" rep has been from people who haven't been here long enough to even build up rep from a stupid computer, much less good people. ;)

Don't sweat it .45. Just like writing a letter you should never mail it the same day, esp. if you are bugged, so I should have waited 6 hours before posting, after getting some sleep. There is no text regardless, just a link to that post.

I just wanted to clear up any possible misperceptions or ill feelings about that day and knife buy. As usual the wondeful people that make this forum great feel OK about it, and that's all that counts with me.

Thanks very much,

Norm

Thanks for putting it in perspective Munk!

As for the sharking results...

These crooked knives have a mind of their own. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they somehow bung up the email to make sure they go where they want to...or even hop from one triangular box to another in their quest to go to where they think they should be.

I'm always surprised at those that find their way here anyway...
