Hey all,
What are your preferred method of payment if you sell stuff internationally? I had an offer come in that mentioned Direct Bank Wire and Western Union and I have no experience with either of them. Seems like I'd have to give bank information for the wire and I'd have to find a Western Union station to use that. Does anyone have any experience with either? How safe are they?

Also, do you have any caveats against shipping out of the country to keep yourself safer? ie. Stuff only gets sent with insurance, only use one carrier... Seems like there's a slightly higher percentage of overseas rip offs than local.

thanks guys, (and girls)

Greg

I'm in Europe and don't know what's the most secure method, possibly the Western Union money transfer. I like to pay with pay pal, It's the easiest way ( I don't mind paying the 3% more) but I don't know how secure it is.

All the f***ing swindlers out there are not doing anything good to the honest people, It's harder every day to buy from US and a lot of individual sellers have stopped shipping items overseas, I hope a secure payment method appear soon....

I did a transaction with an overseas buyer that used Western Union. He picked up the tab for the fees, and the only inconvenient part of the transaction was that I had to go to a nearby Western Union Office. They created a payment form / cashiers check and then cashed it on the spot.

I have a PayPal account that I use for overseas transactions, but I am not a premier member so it wouldn't work to accept the buyer's PayPal account.

Well, I just accepted Western Union on a sale I have going on so we'll see how good it is. I've just heard so much about people somehow getting their money yanked back 3 months after a sale that I'm a little gun shy. (That was with Credit Cards though.) Not that the buyer was shady at all mind you, I just don't want to get hosed on it.

Thanks guys,

Greg

ps. I looked up the Western Union fees and it looks like it costs $34 to send $300 where as Paypal only would get you for around $13.50 plus 1% for the border crossing fee. Not sure why someone would want to use it if it's that expensive.??
