Hi there,

Firstly I honestly had no idea what category this would come under so I apologise if it's the wrong place!

I currently live in Norway and bought my fiance a knife for Valentine's Day as he owns a couple of blades, axes and so on. So I thought something personal from me would be a nice addition..... However...... the laws here are NOT clear and I'm actually starting to panic over purchasing this knife.

Can anyone please tell me if this knife stands a chance of reaching Norway from the USA? And if it does get stopped will they just seize it? I have Googled and Googled to no avail *sighs*...

My guess is that there would be no problem at all shipping the pictured knife from the US. And unless Norway has some strange knife laws, there should be no problem receiving the knife. Aren't there at least a few Norwegian knife makers that make hunting knives - which may be of a similar shape? A few countries have strict regulations about folding knives but not as often fixed bladed knives. You might contact the business you purchased the knife from. They may be able to give you a more definitive answer. Mike

Hey,

Thanks for replying. I did look into knife laws and saw which blades were illegal (had to Google image search as the names meant nothing to me), and this blade didn't seem to fit into any of the illegal categories.
I did also talk with the seller but while he had shipped to Norway before he couldn't remember if he'd sent a knife before. I chose to buy from the US because of the price akd also the knife is being engraved.

I'm probably panicking over nothing but I've never bought a blade before and even after researching I'm still unsure.

Fixed blades like yours are shipped all over the world all the time. I don't think you should have any problems. Keep us posted. Mike

I imagine Norway would be similar if not a little better than the knife laws here in Germany. In most European countries a person can buy and own pretty much any kind of knife, even switchblades are sold in most all knife stores. It all comes down to carrying the knife, then things become much less tolerant (hello slip joint knives ).

I don't know how Norway works but you seem like sensible folks. I have ordered all kinds of knives and questionable for utility kind of daggers without any problems.

This. You can own pretty much own everything, daggers, swords, big knives, knives with guards, assisted..

Thanks for the replies. The plan isn't to carry it just for display and possibly use it while camping in the summer.

Its getting posted tomorrow so I will let you guys know what happens. I appreciate the responses. First time buying is a little scary. For me anyway....

Hey Riverleaf, I live in Oslo, and that knife will not be an issue at all.
I`ve gotten much more agressive looking blades in the mail without a problem.
As long as it is not double-edge, automatic or Butterfly knife, you can get anything you want mailed to you...

By the way, are you and/or you fiance into knives, this is THE place to be for information.
And me and a fellow member in here started out a Scandinavian gathering just north of Oslo last year.
We will do it again this year and will make it a yearly happening with good food, good drink and good folks....
You are welcome to participate if you want to....

Oh nice to see someone else from Oslo! I'm actually British but moved to Norway for my fiance.

He's into weapons in general. Has some knives, swords and axes. I used to shoot clay pigeons back home so I'm more of a gun lady but I can mention it to him and see what he says. Where outside of Oslo is it?

Aplace called Skreia, about 50 mins drive north of Oslo...
If myou search for Scandinavian Bladeforum Gathering you will find some pictures and info...
Hope to see you/him there...

A quick reply to say the knife arrived in good time with just 112kr in customs fees. Thanks guys :) feel more confident to purchase again.
