International shipping question.

Hey, y'all.

Recently purchased a custom knife from the maker, not realizing he was outside the US. Eastern Europe, actually. After two weeks had passed I contacted him and was advised the knife was shipped from Romania with no tracking information and not to worry because Romanian post office typically takes 2 weeks just to ship within the country and if it never arrives he'll "make me another one." It has now been 3 weeks. How long should I wait before thinking about filing a dispute? I'm thinking 30 days should be reasonable, right? How long should it take to have a package delivered to the US from Romania?

I just ordered a knife from Finland and it was sat in sorting in Helsinki for well over 2 weeks. I ordered on Feb 16, and just received the knife March 21. I wouldn't worry just yet. They are really slow to process over there. Good luck.

Oh really? Well i have 5 packages sent over 3 weeks ago to the US from Vienna/Austria, and only 4 were delivered end of last week, the last will probably take another week. All left my country after 2 days.
Actually USPS is slow as hell at the moment. As of now i'd say 3-5 weeks is common for priority parcel from europe to US. It used to be 7-10 days.
 
Try to relax - international postage takes a while. I've had packages from the US take over 3 weeks to reach me here. I would say wait for as long as you can.

No need to worry about filing a report......
Just give it time, and IF it doesn't show up, have him make you another one.
And I bet he will.:)
 
You are looking for at least 3 weeks till you get the package after it leaves the country.
For me packages take about 4 weeks from Bulgaria for example.
 
I must confirm usps is very slow last couple of months. I use to ship with e-parcel group which is most expensive tracked and insured shipping from Slovakia. It easily takes 4 weeks to delivery. It also leaves my country within 48 hours. It tooks weeks while us customs scan it. Do mot know why it is such slow.
Last year it was up to two weeks.

It isn't USPS until Customs releases it. Their time has nothing to do with the post office. They won't answer to the post office or to customers while they are getting around to a package supposedly incoming.
 
recently bought a knife off a member from malaysia. It took 4 weeks. Lots of red tape i suppose. I was a little nervous but the member tracked it all the way through and i received the knife in good shape. Hard to have patience sometimes especially since im used to USPS priority mail.

It's unfortunate that there is no tracking#. Perhaps the maker could ship with tracking to avoid the 'guessing games' that shipping from that far can be....

As for how long you should wait, give it another two weeks.
PP has your back for 180 days after the purchase so you have no worries there, however if it doesn't arrive in another 2 weeks you should begin a dialogue with the maker about making you another one...

Tracking should be a MUST for international shipments....
