Hey guys...I am using a friends internet..I have been without power due to an IceStorm since thursday night...I enjoyed the heck outta the whole experience overall. I spent the entire time with my wife and daughter..mother and stepfather. They didnt really think it was much fun really! LOL.
I did all the cooking on a propane stove..and had to chop ALOT of wood! I bet there is still some folks from NH and MA that havnt even gotten thier pwer back yet!
I used the Skookum and my Javenpaa Aito the entire time...I never went anywhere without them. The Skookum is a perfect daily user..like the Aito. Good to stop in to say hello...I will talk more some other time...I hope that all the other folks from my area are OK, and thier families are staying warm. Gene

Goes to show you that making it through this sort of situation is about preparedness - but making the most of it is about perspective.

Good stuff Gene. Stay warm. And take pics (if possible)!

All the best,

- Mike

Good to see you have a plan B. We had tons of rain here, lost power for a couple of hours, with a basement sump filling fast. I have a backup generator with transfer switch for emergency lighting, sump pump and heat. Yeah, it's good to have a plan B:D

Glad you're enjoying it, Gene...

My cousins in MA had 100 trees fall on their property!

Now, I am going to sleep for awhile as I have a 102 degree fever...and I am glad not to have to deal with the ice or trees right now!

sounds like you are making the best out of a bad situation. we didn't get anything but rain, but i saw on the news that there are some people projected to be without power until the end of the week. you guys really got alot of snow!

Brian, I just got off the shakes, chills and bone aches, and I have it again. Gene, good luck, glad you had fun. Looks pretty bad up there.

I dont want to make light of this situation..I just meant that I personally didnt mind not having power...I prefer having to do stuff all the time...sitting around sucks. I try to keep busy..but a situation like this one really gets you to working. We had a sump pump fail at my parents as well. The basement got up to 2 feet deep. Thankfully, the basement is 2 levels. The upper level stayed dry..which was good. thats were the fridge with the beer was.
On Friday..the morning after, I went out on the front stoop at my condo, and made cowboy coffee on my large esbit stove. There was no power, period...so the smell of coffee made me a bit of a hero to the neighbors. It was terrible coffee..but it had caffiene in it.
I moved the family to my mothers country home after I did a recon of the area..there was no way power would return to my area for days, as far as I was concerned..and I was right...Thursday the 11th, 8:30 PM, till Monday the 15th, 2 pm. I figured tuesday..so they impressed me. It looked like we got shelled by the Germans....pretty bad. There is still alot of folks without power. I went to Louisiana after Katrina..and I am not saying this is that bad..but all the trees down gives me the kreeps..just like LA. Overall..if we got hit by another storm today or tomorrow..the bodies would start piling up..IMO.
I had my kit in the car first thing..and then I had to wait for the family..LOL. I used my Skookum alot..I have to say..If it wasnt for my new Ax..I just got in the Wetterlings Felling Ax..a full size ax..and my Skookum..I would have had it tough..these 2 tools made my time outdoors in the cold alot easier. I slept indoors..but without heat..the temperature in the house was around 23Degrees F.
Sorry...no PICs..but I will take a shot next week of a big Oak I diced up with my Wetterlings...man, what an Axe. Gene

Glad to here everyone is OK Gene. I was actually talking to a coworker about that storm and she was saying how terrible it is for those people with out power in the cold. I just said, "I know a guy who is probably having a blast right now!" Glad I was right bro!

You know you're a member of WS&S if your power goes out because of an ice storm and you're loving it.

:D Glad to hear you're ok Gene.

Doc
