In case anyone's interested in the latest and greatest browser from Gates and company, it's just been released for download in final form.

A looooooong installation, but it seems to be working better than the beta versions.

http://www.microsoft.com/

I tried since last night, all I get is, "The page cannot be displayed" when I click on the "Install" link on the Microsoft site.

Like most products of the great Gates, the best advice is wait allittle until the bugs get worked out.

"wait till the bugs are worked out" ?? Why is it that they have frequent upgrades on XP ? The last upgrade wiped out the password on every forum that I'm on !!! There are always and will always be bugs in computers !

Up and running. Looks different - and didn't give me my home page 1st up. It will probably need tweaking. At least it forced a web bar the kids downloaded to show up in the drop down menu. Zapp!

Where's my favorites? Hiding under a star? Click and now they stay up.

This may be somewhat intuitive ifn an ol fart lak me can do it.

It's definitely faster and "tighter" than the beta versions were.
In fact, it's darn fast!

They did a good job out there in Redmond, definitely a .

It's now as usable as Firefox IMO.

(Opera 9 is still my favorite, but it's incompatible with too many important sites and too quirky to be a default browser.)

just locks up for me-im on opera right now because of the stinkin ie7-

my puter doesnt like the aol explorer either

sorry to hear about that hassle rosconey2

opera uses less memory than the 7, which AFAIR uses 14.7MB, maybe more
it is a big application.
opera uses about 3.5MB

working great for me, have had no problems. Installation did not take as long as I thought it would. I'm using it as my main browser now. Wow, been a long time since I said that about a microsoft browser.

Thanks for the link. I installed it and it seems to be working perfectly. Took ten minutes and a restart. it had me utilize something called 'Clear Type' and I chose what font looked clearest. Definitely more crisp than I had.

I don't know enough about tabs yet, but I will soon enough.

I take it you are on an analog monitor? I've got DVI, and it drove me crazy. Screwed up my Outlook, too. These are anti-aliased fonts. Thankfully, there is an option under Tools-Advanced to disable it. Everything is back to normal now. ;)

FYI, IE7 seems to treat java applets differently, possibly crashing totally and without warning depending on how the applet is tagged in javascript

So if you go to a site and it crashes when the page loads, that's probably what the problem is.

Bug-free software is obsolete software...
