I here alot of people around here commenting how they got this or that in the mail. Now, there are quite a few names that are only possible to get over the internet/in the mail but most production knives are either in local stores or can be ordered in local stores. I alway go to my local outdoor sports store "Powderhorn" and they usually order my knives and give them to me at either the best price I can find on the internet or better. eg. my Rukus-$160, Mini Rukus-$140 Skirmish-$160, 710-$105, endura 4 ss-$60... I live in Vermont and we don't really have any chain stores that carry knives actually the only ones are WalMart and Dicks (which I refuse to patronize) I would assume that with the volume stores like Gander Mt. etc. carry their prices would be even better so whats the deal is there some special discount site where I can get knives even cheaper then I could ever imagen or do most of the people here really get their knives locally and I am mistaken --> lets here it folks, for you is it the internet or local outdoor sports store?

The Walmarts around me don't really offer many folders I really want (or I've already got ones that are too similar for me to get the ones they offer). There aren't really any other large/chain stores around me that sell knives aside from REI which carries only a few offerings.

There's a local knife store I frequent and know a couple of people there, but they charge MSRP for all their knives, no haggling. Considering I get most of my knives for 40% off MSRP online, it's hard for me to ignore the price difference. I've purchased some things at the store to support them, but most of my purchases are online and I have a few shops that have always been good to me, and one main one that gives me great prices.

I will not pay 25% more to buy something local (inculding the S&H). Also I have no knife stores in town to support. Wally world is the last place I want to give my money to and all the small guys went out years ago. Anchorage has a nice knife shop and I stop and buy something everytime I drive through. I have a sportsmans warehouse here but there prices suck.

Three knife stores on Long Island ( NY) and they are all high priced ......I can usally buy two of the same knife on line for their price for one.....

The mark up at dedicated knife stores is outrageous. There is one here in FW and I just go there to window shop.

Andy

Same here and the chain stores like Gander Mtn mostly sell at MSRP.

I buy from a half dozen or more Internet dealers plus I'm on a bunch of email lists and get email specials all the time.

The store I go to mostly sells guns so maybe their not worried about making much on Knives but their prices on gun about the same, as cheep as anything I can find on the internet (I spend alot on guns so the people there really like me, but I quoted only sticker prices)

I would love to buy locally but prices are crazy high at the shops I've been to. Usually $50-$100 more at a store. Example, Skirmish at local store was $200 + $15 in tax + 26 mile round trip + one unfriendly, sigh at every question, sigh every time he has to open the case, a**hole saleman. Online, $150 + free shipping and no tax + every person I've dealt with online has been more than helpful, answering questions and returning emails quickly, they also seemed to be knife enthusiasts. I'd love to support my local store, but they don't seem give a crap. Spyderco Mother of Pearl Delica, at the store, $339 + $26 tax+26 mile round trip, online, $179 + $7 shipping. So online I will go.
