Intro from Matt in CO

Welcome,

I live in the NE corner of CO. Always glad to see another friendly face around the fire so to speak. Nice looking gear. How did you do the texturing on the scales? It looks good.

The stippling is good ole masking tape to define a shape and a soldering iron. I cut the tap into much thinner strips, like pin-striping tape, and it was very easy to manipulate the compound curves and make it look perty... The grivory seems thick enough to stipple on top of stipple on top of stipple. Whenever I had a hole that was too large or if I saw a pattern developing, I just went over the area again. You can actually see where the stock sheath wore down the ridges, I've been meaning to hit it again, but no biggie.

Cheers,
m.

Here the pics for ya, you wouldn't believe that I had to retake them to keep them family/work friendly... I cut my finger sheathing the bk2 just now. I'm not clumsy, damn knives are just too sharp...

Bk11 at 11 o'clock EDC.
BK2 at small of back whenever I can justify it.

Cheers,
Matt

Pictures of beautiful wife holding Becker's please.

Someone donate a BK5 and I'll get one in the kitchen asap!

We talked about a Lara Croft costume this year, but as I was 'measuring' for the drop leg straps, she decided, the sexy/knife combo was a little much for our trick or treating plans. Maybe next year. It's pretty cold here in CO, I'm going to have to be tactful for that to ever come to fruition... Baby sitter / concert combo maybe...

I just retested, it will hold for ten, good, hard, completely inverted shakes by the strap, not touching the sheath body at all before coming out. With a belt wedged in there, it's a bit stiffer yet, and if I'm truly worried, I can tuck the pinky lanyard in my belt, or I suppose a ranger band could be employed here if I felt the bushwacking was going to get crazy, or I had planned on running somewhere (I only run away from things and very rarely by choice). I have yet to have it come out without intending to take it out, although, admittedly, I only have a few miles hiking and scrambling with it so far. For inverted carry, I could pretty easily make a different strap to include a small retaining strap. That may be my next improvement, a large Y shaped strap, one leg for the belt and one for the retaining strap, hmmm... Great, now I'm second guessing my own craftsmanship...

I just wet molded the leather with 'great intention'. The sheath started out completely flat and sewn, then carved a rough shape of the front of the grip out of a 2x4, got the leather wet and literally hammered it in and stretched the leather around it, then finished shaping with the actual knife. Let dry, rewarm/rewet/refit, cool, rewarm/rewet/refit, cool, rewarm, beeswax, done. Here's the money shots.

Cheers, m.

Good forming! Dont question yourself, if it works it works. I was just curious

Thanks, I have a lot of fun working with leather. I'm working on my first couple bags now. A range bag for shot shells or spent brass, and a Indiana Jones style bag for my wife's school bag. It's sewn together and turned out huge, she says it's perfect, but it's not. It's gigantic. I'll end up having to make her another one I'm sure. Anything for love.

If I did it for money, would it be as fun? I don't think so... m.
