I was out camping this weekend with some friends and they were having trouble with the wood they cut being wet. They just about died when I sat down put my BK10 on top of it and smashed it into the log with a 2in piece of wood. Their faces were priceless. Then they just sat and watched as I turned three 4 or 6 in logs into about 2 in square length pieces. Then to show off a little, I then shredded a piece of paper a few times to show them it was still perfect. Thought it worked out to be a great way to introduce them to the Becker way of utilizing a field knife.

That is awesome... But really who do you go camping with that is SO underprepared?! :p

Next time introduce them to Doc's theory on Vaseline. (AIG's theory, not Moose's theory)

I have found using Beckers in front of people gets them interested. Most folks have never seen them around here as they are not very well represented in MOST of the stores here in central Texas. I "THINK" the Cabella's in Buda carries 1 or 2 in stock, sometimes.

Since I got into Beckers, I have started EDCing an 11 as my 3rd FB, left hip pocket carry. I use it to open packages at the post office. In the last month, I have had at least 10 people ask me what it was and 3 had me write it down for them. When they ask where to get one, I tell them Tomar's (as it's the only website that carries Beckers that I can remember off the top of my head.)

I think I oughta get a commission from Tomar since that is the site I send most folks.

Or maybe I need to become a Kabar dealer and carry spares to sell. :D:D

That one will stick with them a while. They're looking at Beckers online right now.

I first ran across the Becker line when researching survival knives. I was amazed at the versatility of the line. I immediately began searching for my BK2.

I have since shown the 2 (and now my 3) to several folks. They are consistently impressed by these knives, what they can do, and how well they can do it.

I've encountered quite a few people who have never seen anybody baton wood with a knife before. Common reaction, "woah...".

Quite a common reaction here too. Probably half here would accuse you of abusing your poor ole' knife.

GET AN AXE!!!!!!;)

Ha! I got to say it first........

The funny thing is most want to try it out but are a little scared and weary and find out its a lot harder to baton then it looks. And then they say, "why are you using a knife to do that?". I always answer that question with a question.

Ef yeah.....Brain.

Where was ya campin' at?

Definitely gonna have to look into becoming a Kabar dealer. :D:D

Yesterday was the last day of filming for Revolution, Season 2. While standing in the Extras check-in line, the guy next to me started up a conversation about my knives (I was still in 'civilian" dress and had my usual kit - 2 Kabar 1232s, a BK11, and Buck 482/484 combo. Long story short, I ended up with him deciding to look at the tweeners for his next knife. Later, the guy behind me tracked me down and started asking more questions about the 2/7/9 I had mentioned while expounding on Becker variety. Then, last night, during a break near midnight, someone needed to cut some light line and while they were looking for something to cut it with, I pulled out my 11 from my hip pocket. I think I got 2 more people into the 11 (1 just because of the bottle opener. :D) and one more in the 2.

If I just made $5 a knife, that would have been $25 for talking while getting paid to stand around doing nothing, which I can do a lot of (talk AND the nothin' part). :D:D:D

2 1232s? One for each hand? Thats a lot of knives.

2 1232s? One for each hand? Thats a lot of knives.

I carry 2 1232s, 1 on each hip because:::

1) I prefer fixed blades. Have never had one close on me by accident yet.

2) 1232s are only 4" blades, easily appropriate for a most day-to-day tasks

3) History/nostalgia - My grandfather carried a 1232 when working on rotating/moving machinery (farmer, grain elevator operator, butcher shop). One day, back in 1965, while I was "helping" him work on a combine, his shirt sleeve got caught in a moving chain drive. He cut his sleeve free w/ his 1232 and said "That's why you carry a fixed blade.? I asked him, "What if it had been your other arm that got caught?" We turned off the combine, drove 3 miles to town and he bought the closest thing in stock to a 1232 - a Western L46-5. Later, when more Kabars came in, he got a second 1232 and gave me the L46-5, saying "If you're smart enough to ask that question, you're old enough to have a fixed blade." Still have that knife. So I carry 2 blades, 1232s because a) in nostalgic homage to him, b) they're a real handy size c) I like Kabars. And one on each side because you never know when you will need a knife and by Murphy's Law - Knife Availability Corollary, the knife will be on the wrong side for proper usage.

With respect to "that's a lot of knives", maybe. I carry the 2 folding Bucks for those occasions when I have to leave the fixed blades in the vehicle due to the nature of the business I happen to be calling on. I can then just pop the belt sheaths off and still have a knife on each side.

When I have to go in some building that specifically bans the carrying of knives in it, say like a Courthouse, what I do is take the BK11 and the 2 Bucks out of my pockets and take the knives out of their sheaths and leave them in the vehicle, but leave the sheaths on my belt.

Now, you may ask, "Z why do you do that?"

Well I do it because I think it's stupid that I am not even allowed to take a little bitty SAK into the court house. And since the signs all show bare bladed fixed blades with a red "NO" symbol on them, I leave the knives behind so I can be the south end of a north bound mule when a deputy/rent-a-cop asks about them and say, "well, your sign says "No Knives", it doesn't say "No Sheaths".

Love it! Zzyzzogeton

I believe I read that story of your grandfather in another thread and since it made so much sense to me, I started carrying one of my waved folders on my weak side. Snaps right open as I remove it from the pocket. I have also started training my hand positions for drawing / retention. Hard to believe that was something that was never covered in any of the courses I took. Previous to that I normally carried my 3 (or 4) EDC's strong side.
