We have been working for a while to produce a ambidextrous cross carry sheath for Fiddleback knives for some time and have finally released our X-Carry. What we desired was a sheath that could be carried on at least a 1.5 inch belt with in right, left, horizontal, and vertical positions without any weak points in the carry.

We prototyped the sheath using the Fiddleback Nessmuk and have been scaling it to other knives as interest arrives. Currently we have four models: The X-Carry King, X-Carry Knight, X-Carry Earl, and X-Carry Count.

These four models can hold anything as small as the 3 fingered Karda and Pocket Kephart through the Arete and Recluse to the Nessmuk.

The King and Knight are available right now at Fiddleback Outpost and the Earl and Count soon to come.

I love how you kept true to the lines of this style sheath. The ability to carry horizontal is an added plus.

Rick,

If you mean that I am claiming that this design is original, no. I don't think I have ever truly come up with an original design since making sheaths. There are so many sheaths and designers out there that about the time I made one that I thought "Hey, I have never seen that before!" I would see one that was very close. The best I can hope for as a maker is to humbly put my spin on the tried and true designs of the past and maybe make a knife specific design that would add something to the tradition of sheath making.

I have always loved the Kite Shield design and was originally introduced to it by JRE sheaths, although I would wager they didn't invent it either. To be honest, the Kite Shield design is so close to a dagger sheath, to call it 'mine' would ignore thousands of years of tradition.

What I was trying to say was that I prototyped this design with the Nessmuk in mind to ensure that it fit and did what I wanted it to do. Once it did, and I tested it, I expanded that out to other models of knife to ensure it fit.

Thanks for the question and a chance to clarify.

Although I have never been a fan of the 'X Loop' design, it just rides too high vertical for me, I do like that you put some meat at the attachment points. I always see them done with like two stitches which just won't cut it over the long haul.

No big deal Jason, like I said, just asking. As always, top quality craftsmanship and, as Sky pointed out, good design touch on the extra stitches at the weak points.

Thanks Rick. As I said to you, one day I will move to lined sheaths. They are on my list. I drool over Paul Longs work and frankly want to be as good as he or you when I grow up.

I only have seven years under my belt - guys like you and Skye made more than me in the last six months! ;)

Which model will fit and EDC II? They all look great btw

I picked up a "knight" last week and took it on a camping trip this past weekend. I got it primarily for my Ladyfinger, but it also fits my Arete, Bushfinger, and KE Bushie. I have relatively little experience with high quality leather sheaths; mostly I just cycle knives through one of several production quality sheaths that I own. I picked this one up partly because I was interested in trying out horizontal carry. It turns out that horizontal carry is just ok (at least for a knife this size), but I am very happy using it for vertical carry. The greatest strength of this sheath design to me is flexibility; it holds several knives in a variety of configurations. The workmanship and leather quality are both outstanding, and I expect to pick up a smaller size eventually.

Thanks to Diomedes and thanks also to Fiddleback Outpost for the great customer service. Edit: pictures added to "Show off your Fiddlebacks and Leather" p75.

Yes, Count is slightly shorter (~5/8") than the Earl. It fits models like the EDC II, F2 and Sylverfalcen.

Good, I will need to pick up a couple of counts in the future. One ISP for me, and a cross carry for the wife's Bushboot, She is used to that carry height with the sheath she has, but it needs to be replaced.

Interesting-- going from pictures alone, I had the EDC II at about the same length as the Patch...? Yet the Earl seems the better fit for the latter.

More pictures indicated. Y'know, in your spare time. :D

Count fits EDC II

Here's the APS Count (same size, just pocket carry) with an EDC II:

The Fiddleback Forge Patch fits perfectly in the APS Earl:

Interesting. Going by comparison images alone, I had the EDC II and the Patch at about the same length, yet they fit 'the same' in two different-sized sheaths.

Still climbing the learning curve
