Introducing...the new Spyderco Perfecta?

Am I the only person that thinks there's a missing knife exactly between the Delica and Endura in size? Sort of like how there's an asteroid belt where the missing planet should be between Mars and Jupiter.

I think 3.5 inches is just about the right size for a general purpose EDC. The Delica is just a tad too small and the Endura is too big...it's uncomfortable in my pocket when driving or sitting. I think there's room in the Spyderco line for a perfect blend of both...the Spyderco Perfecta!

My first thought would be to call it the Performa, but Apple probably trademarked that name back in the 90's.

How about it Sal, can we get a mid-size that's configured exactly like the FRN E4 and D4???

I would buy one.

But I suspect that from a marketing perspective, the diminution in Delica and Endura sales resulting from such a knife might make it not worth the effort for Spyderco.

Wouldn't the Stretch fit the bill? 3.5" i thought.

It's one of the best folders out there, and the newer cheaper FRN version is a bargain.

No thanks. The Stretch fills my need for a 3.5" folder as close to perfectly as a production folder can. To me, eliminating the 50/50 choil would be a step backward. I also prefer the Stretch's tip and while its narrow "hunter" style blade may not be the most attractive shape, it can get into places the broader blades of the Delica and Endura cannot. Won't mention grind, since the Delica and Endura seem to be adopting the full flat, so I will assume any "midsize" version would have one as well.

To be honest, I'd just like to see the Delica's blade lengthened to fill its handle. If that would be done, the blade length would probably be pretty close to 3.5 overall. It almost drives me crazy when I look at my G10 D4 and see how much wasted space is sitting there, right now without any changes, between the end of the tip and the end of the handle.

The Stretch FRN is just plain amazing. I love my Stretch CF, but injust got home today from a 3 day stay with severe pnuemonia to the great Strectch FRN ZDP. The fit and finish is flawless, and the knife fills the hand perfectly. It may not be as flat as my Stretch CF, but it is lighter, more ergonomic (which is a feat to beat the Stretch CF in Ergos), has the same great 3.5" blade and fits my pocket great in spite of it being a bit wider than the ultra thin Stretch CF. IMO the Stretch FRN is about as good as it gets, and it is not too bad on the wallet to boot.

Well, it's not configured like the Endura or Delica, but it is right between them in size. That would be the Stretch. Nice knife and probably exactly what you're looking for.

Edit: Ok, this is what I get for answering the OP without reading the entire thread. There was no need for me to post at all.

The FRN Stretch! Mucho perfecto for your needs! :D

Yeah, maybe, but the idea is to have three knives in the same family. A Delica is a baby Endura because they share the same handle and blade profiles. The Stretch doesn't share either.

Besides, it doesn't end in "a" like the Delica and Endura. Maybe I would like it better if they rename it the Spydero Stretcha? :D

What's a 50/50 choil? I know what a choil is, but what does the 50/50 designate?

It signifies a design which puts the exposed portion of the blade tang to use, rather than just letting it be wasted space as it is on the Delica and Endura. It does that by curving the tang and having a matching curved section at the front of the handle so you can place your finger there, if you desire. Extreme examples of the 50/50 choil would include the Native, Sage, Manix, and Kiwi. Other models, including the Military, Caly 3, and Stretch have less extreme versions of it.

Thanks, Paul. After reading your explanation I know exactly what you're talking about.

Exactly... Plus, I don't think we need 3 of the same model knife in 1/4" increments.

The Stretcha? That's good! :D Or Perfecta, Enelica, and of course Dendura.
If Spyderco makes it, you know it will be great. :)
