Hello everyone! My name is Dario, I live in Florida and I am a big outdoors guy. I'm 21 and since I was little I had an interest for weapons, blades in particular caught my attention and one day I decided to start making my own knives. So here's my first knife I made a few days ago. It's O1 tool steel 3/16'' with dymondwood handle and red spacers. I used an angle grinder for profiling and bevel, files and sand paper. For the handle I used a sanding disk drill attachment. I hope I can get some feed back and good tips from you guys. Thank you!

I like the design and handle. It looks tough.

I have to admit that the scratches bug me. For me, the most time consuming part of knifemaking is getting all of those damned scratches out (I might miss a couple). It doesn't have to be mirror-smooth, I just like all of the scratches to go the same direction.

It won't affect performance either way; I just like to see knives completely finished.

Dario,

Welcome to Bladeforums..... :)

Your knife looks good for a starter, stick around you will learn a lot here.
And find a lot cool knife people.
You could also upgrade to a knife maker member ship, if you want? :D

I think there are couple sub forums here, that paying members only get to see.
So, I was not trying to push you into something you didn't want?
Just saying it may be to your advantage??
If you are looking for help and information here.
But all in time, it's all good - have a great day.

Dario,
Welcome to BF. I am sure that I speak for many when I say we hope to see more of your work here. You are off to a great start. Enjoy the comraderie and journey as you learn new things here, meet folks with similar interests, and hone your skills.

Thank you I liked the pun there eh eh... I have a question now actually, It's about blade geometry. So far what I do is shape the blade with the angle grinder and then with a file I flatten as much as I can. For the cutting edge, since I do not have a belt sander, what would you suggest to be the best way to get it? Because for now I just thin down the blade so it comes out almost as a convex edge, while I would like it to be flat ground but the edge is hard to obtain... Should I use the stones? thank you

Dario,
Welcome to Bladeforums. Good try for your fisrt knife. I wasn't brave enough to make my own blades until after a few kit knives. I do agree with Phillip about the scratches, you'll have a much nicer looking knife when done. Dan

Thank you for the kind words, and my next knife I will make an extra effort in taking the scratches off, unfortunately I use an angle grinder and sometimes the hand is a little too heavy...

You can try coarse sandpaper glued to a flat surface. It works pretty quickly. It's cheaper than an extra coarse stone.

Hi Dario, great first knife. Come and join us in the "ShopTalk" sub-forum of the "Makers" area.

You don't want to hang around these unsavory guys too long anyways :D

It's better than a lot of first knives that I have seen.

Is it possible to take a photo directly from the side. It is hard to get a good idea what the knife looks like because of the angles the photos are taken from.

I like the design, and still think it is a good first effort. The finish is pretty rough, but over time and with practice, it will improve.
