Yeah, I like the beefy design too, and hefty handle. Makes me want to pick it up and cut something. :D

You can try "draw filing" to get the flats on your blade, since you're working without a grinder. You can remove a lot of steel very accurately that way.

Check out Shop Talk and ask away. Many makers post pics of their methods for getting the work done and we all learn a lot there.

Welcome to the forums! That's a commendable first effort - looks solid and up for some hard use. Lots of helpful tips and advice to be found in the makers' section as well, but I hope you'll also continue to show us your work here as it progresses.
