Hey guys, Gordon here. I joined recently to check out the handmade stuff. I am truly amazed! I expected 'just knives' but most I've seen blur the line between form and function.....job well done I guess I should say.

I built a hotrod (1971 Camaro), then built several guns (AR's), and now I'm fully going low-tech by trying a few knives.

Santa brought me a 110# (or close) anvil that was allegedly made in the 1940's. It is in great shape and dent free. A sweet hammer/tongs and a few files made it under the tree too. :) I'll start building a forge ASAP. Went looking for firebrick today...gonna grab a few tomorrow. Going simple coal for starters and meanwhile I've been eyeballing basis-of-design for a propane forge.....and then I'll nail down a belt grinder. Just trying a new hobby out....one that has interested me since I was a kid.

There are a lot of very nice folk here who seem interested in helping, even though they've answered the same questions about a dozen times.

I found it very worthwhile to read through the sticky posts at the top of the forum (and all the pages they link to... if you haven't already).

I look forward to seeing your work.

Hey Gordon,
I think it's funny that I too built some ARs and now have moved into trying to make knives. This forum is a great place with very experienced people who don't mind helping out. I found it very useful to purchase a subscription to the site so that I could do searching easier.

Have fun

Welcome to the habit... I mean "hobby"...

it is kind of addictive

If you need help with the forge feel free to get in touch with me. Ebay has some good blowers on it.:D
