I have been lurking in the traditional forum for some time now and am slowly starting to post more and more here. As such, I thought it only appropriate to introduce myself. I have been collecting and using knives for quite some time now. Mostly my collection has focused on modern folders. I have quite a few ZT knives, as well as Emerson. Others of note are Southern Grind, SOG, Brous, Benchmade, Spyderco, and Hinderer. One thing I didn't really have in collection were any traditional knives. I had a couple of my fathers old knives, but I have kept those stored away in a box with some other keepsakes. Recently, I was looking through said box of keepsakes, and started to look at those old knives. Something must have struck me. Whether it was the history in them, or the longing for my departed father, I don't know which, but something sparked in me.

I decided to give a traditional of my own a try. Upon receiving it, I was immediately struck with the quality and craftsmanship that went into it. It was definitely different from my usual flipper/thumbstud folders. But somehow, it just felt right in my hand. I have since then, acquired several more from GEC, and have about 4 inbound to me as I type. I enjoy the history of the companies that make these knives, and I have enjoyed learning about the knives themselves. Have I got questions? You bet I do. But those will all be answered in time, I'm sure.

As for what I do when I'm not researching knives, I teach cyber security (offensive and defensive) at a polytech in Canada. As former military, I believe in defending freedom at all costs. I absolutely love dogs. I am also madly in love with my spouse.

I have found the banter and conversations in the Traditional Forum very friendly and sincere and I hope to be a regular contributor.

Sincerely,

John

Welcome! Sorry you caught da bug, but it sounds like you are already hooked. :D It goes from "several inbound" , to many. Just make sure your spouse loves you a lot too, as this only gets worse. ;) Good luck and happy hunting.
Thanks, Neal

Welcome! If you're interested in traditional knives then this is the place to be! A lot of friendly and knowledgeable people here to answer all your questions. A lot of "enablers" here, too.....:p

Since you have a wide variety of knives, I assume you have pretty good sharpening skills and equipment. If not, Queen's D2 can be something of a rite of passage for your sharpening skills.

Welcome John! I appreciate and have enjoyed your commentary thus far. We're better in having you here. Best regards

Welcome John, it took me a year to sell my last modern tactical knife, classic Spiderco police, and concentrate on traditionals only....

Welcome to the porch John. There are a terrific bunch of folks hanging around here and it's great to have you join in.

Welcome to The Porch John, and thanks for saying Hi

Welcome John. I'm fairly new here as well and look forward to seeing and hearing your thoughts on traditional knives. This is really a great place with tons of great folks! Good to have you here.

Welcome! Great people and great info about all things traditional right here on the Porch!

Welcome to the porch.
Grab a chair and start whittling. A glass, something to pour into the glass, and some knife (and non-knife) talk is always at hand :)

Ok, ok. Here's one that just arrived today :) I'm still pondering the Tuna Valley, but I did order a S&M Gunstock.

Actually, the Gunstock is in stag. I do love the look of smooth bone, too. It should be here in a couple of weeks.

Thanks to all for your kind welcome! I'll continue to post pictures of my collection as they arrive :)
