introduction

Welcome,
It is pleasing to meet another "forger" addict.
5160 is my favorite and truck spring works also. After you're experienced enough try D2 also (I hate D2 most of the time as its too hard to heat treat but makes super knives and relatively cheap). What is your forge aparatus anyway, coal-gas-torch ?

Happy Hammering

Do you have a picture of this? I'd love to see it! Did it harden and turn into a decent knife?
so far so good with the blade. I havent done any extensive testing on edge holding, but it cuts great. I'll try to get you a picture

Hi Emre
I made my forge out of an old kiln brick, like in the book,"the $50 knife shop".
I'm a potter by trade and have access to the brick. I'm soon going to build a bigger better one, but i'm a bit inexperienced with burners.
I managed an 8" blade with a 4" tang on my 2nd try but it was slow going. Had to keep passing the blade through the torch flame to keep it hot.
