Well I guess it's time to officially introduce myself. I have been learning(lurking) here for awhile under the user name mooseknuckler. I have been making knives for a year and a half now and decided to take the plunge and upgrade my membership to KnifeMaker. I live in central BC and lucky enough to have a friend who is a knife maker who lives about 30 min drive away.

I fitted my first guard on the weekend. I took me about 2 hours.

On this blade I also learned that handsanding a belt finish of 120 grit sucks:jerkit:

Bruce, well done and a good job of fitting the guard :D That's a very clean looking blade, I really like it. Can't wait to see the rest.

Oh yeah, there's a lot about the knifemaking process that sucks or is painful (I have a bleeding finger right now :p wharnie points are stabby!) you didn't learn that earlier in your knifemaking career? :p

Thanks guys!
I'm planning on making the guard oval then browning it. It is going to get a frame handle made with elk scales and micarta.

Welcome Bruce, that guard fit looks very good for a first try (way better than my first 2 tries have gone), and the blade looks great. I look forward to seeing it completed.

Welcome moose I mean Bruce! Glad your upgrade finally went through. Now you can post nonsense in Around the Grinder with the rest of the loonies. :D

Looks like you have a good eye for clean lines and a willingness to get things right.

Yo bro. That fit is top notch.
It is the final outcome that we are all after. It looks like you are on the right track.
I love file work.... and it looks like you have it down...

Welcome to the addiction. It only gets worse from here.

Nice looking blade you have going there. Be sure to show the finished product.

Robert

Looks good Bruce. Please post the knife when you get it all done. Nice and clean work, thanks for showing it to us.
