They say that necessity is the mother of invention. I was on the way home from the gathering when I stopped to let the dog out. I couldn't find her leash and then I realized that I had packed it in the cases strapped to the top of my hooptie. I didn't want to undo the straps and dig through the case in the rain so I looked around the car for something to use. I found a 5 foot piece of bank line tied to the corner of my tarp in the trunk. I was skeptical but I used it and found that I actually liked it better than her regular leash. When I got home I went to work.
I bought the mechanism to attach it to the collar from the hardware store for a dollar.
I attached it to a 5 foot piece of bank line using a bowline knot. For the handle, I noticed that the bank line can dig into your wrist a little bit if Nelly gets after a rabbit or something. So I took about a 10 inch piece of orange paracord, took the guts out of it and slid it over the standing end of the bank line. I then tied the standing end of the bank line into a lanyard knot, thus securing the handle and making things nice and neat.
The whole mess folds up real small and ways 1.25 ounces.
I bet I could get it even lighter if I used a fancier/lighter weight method to attach it to her collar. Maybe a tiny titanium carabiner or something.
The comfort handle not only makes handling your vicious mutt easier, but if you drop it into the leaves or something, it is easy to find.
Our testing reveals the leash to be highly functional and stylish. All the other dogs in the neighborhood want one.
