Invention from the Fall 2012 Beckerhead Gathering

Our testing reveals the leash to be highly functional and stylish. All the other dogs in the neighborhood want one.

Nice Sanuks

Scout (in the avatar) read this thread and laughed (well, it's kind of a chuckle).

It came out kind of growly, but I swear the word he used was "garrote".

Even with the hollowed out 550, the word I would use would be "amputee...".

Canines come in many sizes. This size leash is very limited...

Nelly read your post. She says "This leash would be limited for use with well trained dogs." :)

I like your idea... it would work good on my dog, hes pretty small and doesnt pull when on leash

my boston is a mutant 40 pounds of soild muscle you dont want me too unleash freakzilla on ya lol j/k!!! or am i?

I have used a variety of cord for my leashes... but my lab is a chewer. He likes to gnaw his leashes (poor discipline, I know) -

His current is a 3 ply braid of 550 cord I made from black tan and OD - so far abrasion resistant enough for the boy.

(common web / cord leashes he chews through in seconds)

Get some retired static or dynamic climbing rope and use a biner to attach it to his collar, he can chew all he wants, but he won't get through. You can probably ask a local climbing gym for a 10 ft piece without any issues. It will have to be shorter than 12 ft though, that's the maximum length they are legally allowed to cut retired rope into, at least as far as my knowledge goes.

nifty leash, and in a pinch, it doubles as a snare :) the dog can be the engine to lift the prey. even be the bait :D

just remember, when you get a rope burn from that leash... vaseline :)

Scout replies, "Well-trained dogs don't need leashes." {Well, he really said, "Leashes? We don't need no stinkin' leashes!"}

Nelly agrees with Scout. A well trained dog doesn't have to be under physical control. She saw the movie Moonraker and searched youtube for the relevant clip but couldn't find it. It is when the two dogs sit there looking at the steaks but not eating them until Drago snapped his fingers.

She mentions that a lot of places have leash laws and people can be freaks if she isn't wearing her leash. She likes to think of her skinny leash like those helmets that are little more than skull caps. You're technically wearing a helmet so you're obeying the law, but mocking it at the same time.

Great idea and dog!
What if one ran the cord through 1/4 inch neoprene tubing instead of the paracord sleeve for added comfort and larger dogs who pull?

So we have a Becker inspired type leash huh? I may have to try this out with my lil guy Small. My big boy Deebo (33lb) is pretty good unless he sees a big female dog and Chase is just mellow. Guess which one is the trouble maker...yeah the lil guy ! All have different personalities too, but great dogs !

I make my own too. lately I've been buying the snaps that open in the middle because i think they are slightly easier to ues. You can use a cobra stitch for the handle and I use a noose knot at teh snap. I also bought 50' of 3/8" yellow rope for $10 and made one 30' long to give the dog some room to follow her nose while we are walking. I have been using various noose knots and running the line back through and then tighten at different distances, like 10', and 20 feet. You can just let the rope run through your hand and the knot stops it from going further. With bigger dogs it doesn't crunch your fingers like the handles do.

Pretty sure my Bully would eat the leash before he would have a chance to break it. haha

Those are some cute Bostons. Always wanted to live with that breed.
