Dave, I will tell you that I was one of apparently several that contacted that seller after I saw the auction close, and before I saw your post where you bought it and posted the pic that you copied out of the auction, thus giving yourself away as the buyer of that one.
At that time, not knowing it was you, yes, I asked the seller why it closed early and asked if they knew that it was rare and I hoped they didn't get cheated on a lowball bid.
And that I was personally set to see how the bidding was going and had in mind a maximum in the $100 range. After having see a minty one go for over $300.
From what has been said, I gather that several others, whether from here or not, also voiced some same words.
So, Dave, from my part of that, if the seller used my words, well so sorry.
But I don't think what got played back to you were my words only.
Do I think the uneducated seller should have not closed this auction with active bidders? Absolutely.
Do I think the seller was taken advantage of? Donno, without you saying what you gave for it.
Do I think someone going after an auction that has active bidders, behind the scenes, is wrong? Yes.
I don't understand your comment about this being a $2 knife.
So congratulations on sneaking in and grabbing one from the rest of the active bidders and potential future bidders. Bummer that it was retracted after the seller got educated a bit.
Maybe it will be relisted.
Personally, I think I would just let it go. A complaint to ebay could backfire on you.
