Investigator Review

I bought one of the stainless steel investigators. It is a good pen to carry in your pocket, but it is kind of small. I find that the pocket clip rides on my hand and is uncomfortable sometimes. I like the diameter of the pen, but I wish it was about an inch longer. As far as the price, I thought it was a little bit on the high side. CountryCom makes a stainless pen for $55.00 that is much more robust.

Nice review with some great pics. I did a review on mine when I first got it and posted it here as well. Since then, I bought a black aluminum extreme duty and a vintage original design stonewashed titanium extreme duty. The titanium extreme duty is my "grail" pen if you will. I much prefer the older version as there are more threads to secure the cap. My only grip about the newer versions is the lack of threads, other than that, they are awesome in every way. For me personally, the extreme duty fits my hand better and is more comfortable than the investigator. My investigator is the blue aluminum version as it matches the blues we have to wear at work.

Been using my blue aluminum Investigator pen for the past few weeks at work. Slightly small but very functional for me. Mostly writing in log books but made some nasty dents in the covers with the "decorative" tip. Much better defense for me against an inmate attack vs a ball point Bic I used to write with.

Great review Jason. I found mine a little too small for my big mitts too so I gave it to my wife. Looking to score a full sized one now to replace it.

I've got the brass model with flat end - and it is a lot of pen for the size.

If you're into gadgets and gizmos like I am then you must add an investigator pen to your collection.

I'd love to add a titanium Extreme Duty Pen to the collection - maybe after the holidays.

I'll probably add the full sized too but for now, I kinda like the small size of this one. No way my wife is getting this one :)

I'll be saving for that one but I have to pick up one of the slicer grind XM-18's first :)

My aluminum model is my backup pen. I never leave the house without it. Small size may be a bit uncomfortable (to many) for long writing tasks, but super easy to tuck on your person. If you have ever needed a pen and didn't have one, you can find a place in your EDC for one of these.

I'm looking for something small to fit in my pocket when I don't have a shirt to stick it into.

Can't wait until the brass comes out again. I'm pretty sure that's the one I'm going to get. A little extra weight and I think i would enjoy that.

Just received my brand spankin new Extreme Duty pen from the Ranch. Holy Sweet Jesus is this thing sweet!!

As soon as I have time I'll post a proper review with pics but in the meantime all I can say is if you think the Investigator is bad ass, just give this bad boy a try. It is the XM-24 of writing instruments. . . :D

Yeah, I got the green aluminum Extreme Duty pen.
Solid, looks cool, and...it works really well as a pen.:)
The titanium one is calling my name, but will have to wait till if I get that better job.

I started out with the aluminum Investigator, which I got at Blade 2011, and I loved it. Then I ran up on a couple SS Investigators, which I absolutely loved, even more than the aluminum, because of the added weight. I have medium sized hands, and I think it is perfectly sized for an everyday carry writing instrument.

I love the SS investigators so much, that I finally decided to pull the trigger on a Titanium Investigator, and its on the way now. I can't wait for it to arrive. I held the Extreme Duty at the show, and it seemed to big to carry on a daily basis, as I already carry tons of stuff in my pockets, so the investigator, fitting my hand as well as it does, was the obvious choice for me, and I can't say enough great things about it.

I guess if you are looking for another weapon to pack around, the extreme duty pen or modular kubaton is the way to go, but if you're seriously just looking for a great pen to carry and use on a daily basis, and you don't have huge hands, then the investigator is the way to go, in my opinion.

For me, titanium is my favorite material for a pen; heavier than aluminum, lighter than SS, but warmer feeling.

I would love the ti investigator pen, but I already have a Ti tuffwriter that I carry and don't want to get the pocket carry pen scratched up.

But for the record, ti is awesome. You'll love it.

I read the review (very professional) I don't know why but I can not for the life of me figure out where the "Nub" goes, how it threads to either end so, where does it go when you are writing??
Gotta be me but, even looking at websites I can't figure the answer to what I would think would be an obvious question. The E.D. pen photos show the cap going on either end (although, does the cap fit IF you have a strike attachment on?)

The Cap will thread to either end but the striking tip will only thread to one end.

Thanks Jp, I get it now. I did not realize the "cap" was what had the clip attached. I counted the ribs and see one end has 5 and the other has 3.
