Hi folks, my iPod Touch Gen 6 has NEVER held much of a charge, I get excited if it lasts 3 hours! and that seems rare these days.

But I am not sure who you can trust to handle changing out the battery in one, if any of you have someone/place you can recommend, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
G2

Please don't be offended, but have you turned off the wi-fi and blue tooth?

Hi Frank, not to worry, any hints and tips are appreciate but yes, I've exhausted what things that I can do to this, from what I've read, they were hit and miss as far as battery life went, I should have just taken it back at the first but now it's out of it's warranty period.

Do you have Apple Care? If so, perhaps they can replace your iPod Touch.

nope didn't take advantage of that unfortunately, my ipad works great and lasts a long time but it seems these ipod touch ones are really hit and miss when it comes to battery life, mines been poor right from the very start, I should have taken the initiative and exchanged it then :(

Did you contact an Apple Store and the Genius Bar to get a quote to see how much it would cost?

I did look at the Apple Store on line, as there isn't anything like that near where I live, and it is quite expensive to do, upwards close to $190 or more...

hehe, there in lies the rub ! they sell a bad battery, if you don't get it back to them quickly...it will cost you

But, I've read there are 'places' that can change it out for you, but I'd like to get some references from blade folks before I go sending this out!

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Gary.
I haven't had to do anything like that. But I think some of the fellas at work might have. I'll ask when I get back to work, but it won't be till the 3rd.

Thanks Frank, hate to send this out to just anyone without some references, but it's ridiculous how it dies so quickly.

While I'm pretty crafty, I don't think I'm up to prying this apart and then getting it back together...seamlessly...:) guess I'm not that delicate a guy lol

Thanks Aaron, I did find that also, while they make it look easy, they also marked it as a high difficulty level. :) so I would not want to attempt to even try it.

If I may make a suggestion that probably won't float your boat...

Although I have 2 iPods (8gb Nano 3rd Gen, 160gb Classic), I really only use the Nano. What I also use though is a small older model Android phone (as well as a huge one). It's a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini from AT&T. I bought it brand new off eBay for $110. It's small, light, and thinner than most small-screened phones which are usually rather fat to hold all the hardware required. It has 16gb built-in storage, but more importantly it has a microSD card slot (in which I keep a 200GB - yes, 200GB card) as well as a removable battery. So for well under $200, you can have an extremely versatile media player with over 200GB worth of movies/music/games/whatever and if the battery dies you can have a spare ready to pop in. And since it's a phone (but you don't need to keep a SIM on it), you have a spare (even if you're not on AT&T or T-Mobile's network, you can still dial 911). Best of all is the drag-and-drop file system that doesn't require iTunes.

I know though that you're already invested in and familiar with the Apple/iOS ecosystem, so getting an Android device might not be your thing. Plus although the camera on the S4 Mini is by no means bad, it's not as good as the iSight, and I know you're a photography enthusiast. A If you want to try this route though, I think the S4 Mini is the best option. Anything cheaper won't be powerful enough and will likely be bigger and heavier.

It is a good suggestion but you are right, just not one that would inteterest me and for the reason you stated, pretty set on the Apple stuff, my wife made me get a phone, in the last year I up graded to a sort of smart phone, an LG model which runs the android software, not liking that a lot but, I put that down to me being stubborn as I know there are TONS of people that really do like it a lot, one day I may come around ;) but for now, I'm hooked on apple stuff, just seems to work more intuitively for me than the other.

But again, thanks for the idea, I had thought about that too, something with a larger screen than the ipod touch but smaller than my ipad, making it handier to reach for and carry around town. I was really hoping apple would bring out a new ipod touch in the size of the new apple phones but I think the touch is going the way of the old Classic ipod which they just dropped without any fan fare, I have both the Nano and the last version of the ipod classic, both working fine.

This is one of the reasons I choose to use the iPhone as I no longer need an iPod as well as my smart phone.

Yep, if I were into phones and plans and the like, I can see that, but, for me a phone is a bothersome thing, not much of a talker ;) and REALLY not much of one to Text either!

I imagine there are not many like me out there, old and goofy, but, it is what it is, the ipod touch is very convenient.

Happiness with Android depends on which android phone you get.
My wife and I recently both got android phones, but different models at different price points. The level of satisfaction with the phone increases with the performance of the phone, which is proportional to the price.

Still planning to use my iPod Touch at work. I like having both phone and music player. More battery power. I have ~30 years of CD's on my iPod and I frequently play music all day to shut out noise. I use the iPod primarily as a music player. I like the Touch model because it gives me better control of what I am listening to.

I hear ya Frank, our company just recently moved from our original site, it had been there since the late 60's and moved about 16 miles up by the Elmira/Corning airport into the old Sikorsky helicopter factory building, since being in there, a lot of people have changed to using blue tooth headphones while at their desks, quite handy, and the ipod Nano and the ipod touch both work well with the headphones. I also picked up a blue tooth transmitter so I can also use my ipod classic, which has thousands of songs on there and also works well. Getting away from in the ear type headphones these blue tooth ones are nice.

Anyone else with a recommendation to someone that can replace my battery?
