iPod Touch Gen 6 battery replacement

My iPod is 3–4 years old and I thought I was having battery problems too until I tried using a different charging cord. The charge seems to last much longer. (It used to say 100% charged and then run down in a few hours.) I haven't timed it but it seems noticably better.

Just an idea before you spend $ on new battery or device.

That's worth a shot!
Thanks

Sure thing--otherwise I'm in the same boat as you. If you don't mind, please report on results!

BTW, IME those cords are not reliable. I've had to purchase several over the past couple of years, and I've had no way of knowing that they are working correctly or not until they actually STOP working. This was tricky because it "seemed" to be working (and the iPod was losing charge more rapidly than anticipated), and then it abruptly stopped. I asked someone else to test the cord with their newer device: initially the cord seemed to work, and then it stopped suddenly too after several seconds. Now my theory is that the cords may work, just not properly as expected, and there is no way to test for that unless you test with other devices and other power supplies, etc., or it completely dies.

Also, in the testing process, I attached the cord to my computer as a power supply source. Again, it seemed to be working up to the point it just died--though the iPod never worked right.

In case you were wondering, the faulty cord had been attached to a port at one outlet--never moved, bent or twisted. Sometimes I've seen people with bent cords that look suspicious, and I have no idea how mine was "injured." I think they may just be cheap, not inexpensive.

I picked up one of the braided cloth cords from Best Buy tonight and will use the 10watt charger block that came with my ipad and see how that fares out, hopefully it'll increase it.

I have blue tooth turned off
At night I turn off the WiFi as well an when using I'm very sparing about increasing the brightness, all to help save battery life and yet it still only lasts just under 3 hours if that.

Fingers crossed ;)

Another possibility that might work for you: they're making power banks pretty small and thin these days. Here's a random example I found with a quick search:

You could stick a thing like that to the back of your device with double-sticky tape. It would add a little thickness and weight, but not much. No risk of breaking anything since you won't have to take your ipod apart, and very low cost.

Interesting device, but not looking to carry additional things.

Update using the new cable, so far the battery is lasting just a smidgen longer, seems it may have taken a better charge? going over 3 hours now, a far cry from 9 or 10 hours that I get with my iPad, but it is an improvement :)

I'll see how it goes after the next charge session.

Sorry to hear you didn't get such a big bump. My iPod went from 3-4 hours to 8-9 hrs by using someone else's charing set-up. This happened both times I used his equipment, and I had seen similar fluctuations with different cords of my own.

Yesterday I bought a new cord, and I'm keeping a closer eye on this one. The new cord seems much better-- though over night the charge ran down into the red zone. This AM, I used a different charging cube/adaptor and it seemed to recharge better--we'll see how long this one holds.

Next, I will use that other guy's charging set-up to compare. Something is definitely different, just not smart enough to know exactly what.

BTW, these are the cords sold by Apple. I don't know if it would matter as much for you since your iPad seems to get a good charge.

After the iPod says 100%, you can leave it on the charger and it will trickle charge further. I'm not sure what they mean by 100% these days. To really top off the battery takes some trickle charging. There's a maximum charge time given, something like 8 hours. I'd check the spec for the Touch6 and go for it.

I usually leave it charging overnight as well, I think this new cord may be doing the trick, as it's up to 2 hours and only a little drop in usage showing in the bar graph, hoping to get to 4 hours maybe!!! that'd be epic :)

I've got one of the small square ones from about 8 years ago, it only lasts about an hour and a half stand alone. I primarily use it on my motorcycle so I just plug it in and it stays charged. You could buy one of those power banks and use that as an auxiliary to keep it charged and then it can last on it's own after that. Keep it plugged in when you can.

If you've got it hooked up to speakers as opposed to headphones it will really draw the battery down.

It made it to 3 hours 20 minutes before the 20% thingy popped up, so, it's a start, hopefully it will continue to gain.

And Boxer .45 good idea but I try not to carry too much stuff, I'm usually not too far from a computer and the ipod touch is just handier for some things, so I've put up with the bad charge time for a while now, but it does start to grow old...like me ;)

The wall wart power blocks are not a good option for routine charging. Buying a "smart" charger for ~$20 and a good cable for ~$5 can make significant differences to many devices.

My mom was nice enough to get me this one recently and it's supposed to have multiple charges and it has a built in speaker. It sounds great and loud too! It can charge and play at the same time which means you can use it's battery and your fully charged iPod or phone too. It has its own cables, you can use yours, or you can just use the audio jack like in picture three. For that price it's worth a shot.

I also have a nomad on my keychain. Had it since August and I love it. Come in handy for my phone many times. Make sure it's the same jack, they also have ones with other jacks.
