Ira.

Great story! I grew up around the Harrisonburg, VA area and there were some good folks came from that little country community.

Great story Carl, Ira sounded like a bloody nice guy, and he died in the manner that is a kind way to go if you dont mind me saying that.
I always dreamed of having a neat Poppa, or Grandad...as a child, the only Grandfather I had was my Mums father...who to be honest wasnt a nice man at all, so its realy good to see stories like this of older chaps being the ultimate role model, someone who has been through very very tough times, carries the scars and wisdom, and yet can still be a warm, kind person...thanks for the story

Another great story, Carl!
We meet our maker in many different ways. It still amazes me how men of his era stoically walk west without compunction. My own father went from Lung/brain Cancer which was brutal. Still, until the very end he was more concerned about his family and those around him than for what he was going thru. His last words were "I love you".

That is so great to read that Karda, and those words I tell my girls so many times, as well as my lady...and I would hope I can say them as my last words to them...the true meaning of words would be so so real at that very moment.

Thanks for sharing that Carl. I always appreciate the time it takes you to write these up so we can read them. Great story.
