Iran Threatens U.S. With 'Harm and Pain'

I'm hoping Iran's middle class assumes gradual control of their country and the strident madmen will fall by the wayside.

That's the key. When a country is potentially under attack they rally around the president no matter whether he's a nut or not. I feel like in part this whole thing by Iran's president is to get us to threaten them so he can increase his public support. Remember a really high % age of Iran's population is young and more progressive than the leadership. Most of the middle aged were killed in their war with Iraq.

On the other hand the biggest threat is for Iran to essentially annex southern Iraq. But I think the big threat there would be a religious war against the other branch of Islam.

But we MUST keep North Carolina from intervening!

I DO love to hear all the people committing troops and attacks that won't actually have to do it.

That is right only serving troops should have a say; so forget democracy, forget that we are all within the target sights, forget who actually gets to pay for those young people in uniform, and let only the 18 and 19 year olds make the call.

ps. I know this is a standard long standing Democratic Party talking point; but, I wish people would think before they parrot meaningless words. If sufferage required military service there wouldn't be a Democratic party.

Can we somehow restart the Iran-Iraq war? >>>>>>

Those were the, 'good ole days', weren't they? (though they were appalling days for those involved)

We can't restart that war now because they'd lob nukes at one another.

Pakistan and India finally go to war, both have nukes- Does American get involved? which side ( if any ) ?

Isreal bombs Iranian Nuke sites, this agitates other middle eastern countries and we see the beginnings of another Six Day War- Does America get involved? Can we afford to? can we affford not to?

Taiwan declares independence from China, China responds by declaring war on Taiwan- Does America get involved?

North Korea lobs a nuke at Japan- America's response?
North Korea decides to send troops South, big time- America's response?
North Korea lobs a nuke at Japan and invades South Korea while threatening to detonate more in South Korea if we intervene- America's response?

An as yet unnoticed asteroid ( think Tunguska ) hits Moscow ( or Beijing ) and the Russians ( or Chinese ) mistake it for a first strike...

A virus causes widespread panic with a rising death toll in Europe, lot of folks whishing to emigrate to the, as yet, unaffected USA...

" Shall we play a game..."

Most of this is farfetched but so is winning the Lotto yet people manage to do it.

I think America and the world would immediately be involved in a relief and rescue capacity at the first safe moment. (Indo/Pak Nuke War situation I mean.)

We are the superpower now. There is no Soviet Union. There is only us. We aren't taking over the world are we? We don't have that strategy. We, the earthlings, cannot afford a nuclear attack in any country. Leastly in America. Our economy drives the entire global economy. If Iran threatens that can anyone afford to ignore that?
