Iraq Knife, finished pics!

Hi Matt,

really really nice knife! Just a couple of questions. In the pictures the blade looks black. Is that the true color? And, second question, what process did you go through to arrange to donate the knife? Do you send it blind to some military point of contact? Do you know a specific guy you are sending it to? Do you specify the branch of service? Sorry, silly questions, I know. But I'd hate to see some supply clerk scoop it up. Being in the service myself, a long time ago, I know these things don't always go the way we expect.

Thanks a lot Will and Nick :)

The blade is greyish black, pretty flat color it doesn't shine at all.

To donate the knife I am sending it to the folks in charge of www.adoptasniper.org . They have contacts in Iraq and Afghanistan who are snipers. Many of them have been assigned to reserve units or things like that that don't necessarily have the funding to get them all the specialized equipment they need. They are able to send the knives directly to the troops as personal mail. It will be included with a shipment of other supplies most likely.
I know that you have to put a certain amount of faith in the system on this, but everything I've found says its an honest program and they seem to have a very good success rate on getting stuff to our guys that need it. I hate the thought of some mail clerk getting keeping this for themself, but I don't think its really as big a problem as its made out to be. The idea of it getting over there and making a difference to somebody outweighs the worry anyhow :D

Matt,

It sounds like a good program. And, snipers are guys with ice cold nerve who will sure as heck know how to put that knife to good use if necessary. As I said earlier, it's a great knife--maybe your best.

You did a great job Matt. Get one of the cheaper made file guards and use it for a stop at the ricasso. You can take it off after you get the grind established. I'm getting ready to start mine. Just dont know which way to go on how to get it to the guys that need it most. I hope it helps the recipient in some way.

Thanks Mark
I think I'm going to be getting a new grinder, but I'll probably try the file gaurd anyhow :) With the bench grinder I got one side good and one side a little marred up, then switched to the other wheel and was bumping the motor and messed up the second side. It just kept getting a little worse and a little worse till I had it halfway done and had the grind really well defined. I gotta sell some more knives to switch grinders, but things are off to a decent start
