The Misfits borrowed that logo from an old 1940's era thirteen chapter movie serial entitled "The Crimson Ghost" wherein the criminal mastermind dressed up as a hooded skeleton. (For you Lone Ranger fans, Clayton Moore played his henchman, Ash.)
 
Yeah, most of the lyrics and imagery revolve around horror/sci-fi films of the 50's -60's. the band itself is named after the Marilyn monroe/Gable film, which was marylin's last.
