Iron Kiss Hammer

Took me a little less than an hour and a half today forge a d-guard bowie from 1-3/4" drill rod of O1. My little air compressor did not have any trouble running the hammer. Every time it would turn was about time to reheat the steel. I have not ran a power hammer of any sorts since going to basic bladesmithing school and Damascus school in Old Washington AR. in 03-04. So I'm sure someone who really knows their way around a power hammer could have done it faster. The hammer didn't wake up my neighbors and was pretty easy on the floor.

That hammer is awesome!! I'm super jealous. I have a riverside press as well and would love to add a hammer like yours to the mix! Congrats on the new tool!!!

This might be a weird question, but I'm wondering how loud the hammer is with the garage door down. If you have a sound meter or app on your phone, could you get a sound level 50 feet away? Thanks

Your welcome anytime. And congratulations on the all the photography awards your family got. Your getting pretty good at that stuff. Is their a Wylie's studio in the near future brewing up?

Thanks bud. Yes , the photography thing has taken over big time , especially with the kid jumping into it 100 %.

Talked to Cornfed tonight , we plan to drop by real soon !

I'll look for the app. I definitely had ear plugs in. Mostly because the air compressor is pretty loud when it kicks in. Of course I wear ear plugs when I'm just forging on the anvil with a 2 lb. hammer.

What size compressor do you have? I have been trying to decided between this hammer and a Anyang 88.

Thanks in advance!

I ran a simple husky pro 60 gallon upright air compressor. As soon as the drill rod needed reheating the compressor would come on. By the time it was up to heat it had shut off. It only has a 3.2 hp. engine running on 110. I would like a bigger compressor but I haven't found a good one at a decent price yet.

I was wondering why you had to hang those and then I saw the salt pots peeking out from the edge of the picture. :D
The stainless was from a local sheet metal supplier. I did that to keep the land lord and fire department happy in the hot work area and dirty area. At first I thought it would be cool until I realized I had to hang it. After hanging the first couple I was cussing like a sailor again doing the rest. I ordered just enough to pass inspection with the intent of doing all the wall's so it looked good. After hanging only what was necessary I said never again. If in the future a land lord wants that done I'll tell him as soon as he is finished doing it, to let me know otherwise I'll just take my business elsewhere. But that's life in Vegas.

It's like 22 gauge and came out to about a 100 dollars a sheet, delivered.
