Fellow travellers; Isn't it time for a remake of the movie "The Iron Mistress" ? The question then becomes what knife should be used; a Randall #12 Smithsonan or something else or perhaps two knives to show the the weapons development beyond Resin's design. Any ideas?

I literally sleep with my #12 and have an impressive version of the first Bowie made by Swamp Fox.

As an aside, I bought the #12 back in the 90's as a backup weapon or for quiet work while fighting pirates in the South China Sea. The ops never came off but it was a great excuse to bring another Randall in to the house If you run out of ammo, you have to have something "that will never fail."

You do realize that the Iron Mistress Bowie and the Randall Smithsonian have nothing to do with the Bowie bros.'s knives, right?

That said, a redo with historical knife accuracy might be ok...though probably of interest mainly to knife knerds.

I'll throw in my vote for the Forrest Knife to be the one that is used/modeled.

Yup, that is a version of the knife used in the Sanbar fight.

The movie itself is a great historical movie about Jim Bowie.

Marci's right (Shock). What most of us call a Bowie knife bears little resemblance to what was carried by The Bowies.

I'd like to see a remake no matter what knife was finally decided on. Probably won't be accurate because most non knife knuts
wouldn't understand.

Thats true Marcinek, but still its not as cool as Alan Ladd Iron mistress cool.

Or as cool as Alan Ladd light saber cool! :D I suppose if Bowie knife history has proven anything, its that people don't care about historical accuracy about Bowie knives. Never have and probably never will.

It's all cool.

"All Men die but Glory is forever."

I agree that historically, the real Bowie was nothing like the #12 just wonder how they solid imagine it. I like the picture,it a good believable version, that or the Schivelys as Rezin had them made.

I suppose, in the end, probably it should be done like the ones you mentioned. I don't think most people have ever wanted to think the original Bowie was just a beefed up kitchen knife. Not sexy! :D

I dunno, Marci... Nothin' wrong with a "beefed up kitchen knife"...TTKK is pretty sexy.

Right up there with Virginia Mayo.

So it has been a very long time since I have seen the movie or even read the book, but was it Rezin or Black that made the Iron Mistress, I thought it was black and Rezin may have made the sanbar bowie, I don't know.

There is no solid evidence that Black made anything, let alone the sandbar or Alamo bowies.

And nobody made anything that looks like one in the movie. Its pure movie fantasy meets Thorp silliness, in my opinion.

I know the movie blade is fantasy. But Black was not. It is more believable that an actual smith made a knife than Bowies brother, lol.

My understanding was that Jim had a slightly altered version of Rezin's knife designed and crafted. As to who made it I don't recall.

The movie Seriphim Falls was on cable last night. I like the "bowie" Pierce Brosnan used so effectively.
