Ironwood and leather reaction? Anybody else?

Yeah, looks like I'll be skipping the dye from here on out. When using ironwood anyway.
 
The reason I quit dyeing was that I found (over the years) that a dyed sheath, used under the same tough conditions as a non dyed sheath, had about half the life span. Dyed leather is much more susceptible to drying out and cracking. Once leather cracks its toast.
