Hey Guys, i got some great stuff today.

Some big macassar ebony blocks, big enough for bowie knives,

some 40 year old desert ironwood with an amazing figure and depth of color,

lovely fiddleback maple stabilized by K&G,

some chunks of African blackwood perfect for a small hunter.

Added some AMAZING snakewood blocks. These would work best for either a hidden tang or smaller scales. These blocks are at least 4 years old, and should be left to acclimate to your shop. Figure is stunning

And some cocobolo from a variety of logs, beautiful color. The marbled ones "prices so" are STUNNING

Added some stabalized claro crotch walnut

Prices and dimensions are at the bottom, just say "Ill take block #______ of the _________"

shipping is 8 dollars for 3, 14 for more.

You guys always make me bust out my 900 page "Complete collection of rare timbers."

Its a wood often known a false satinwood, Satinwood being a name thrown on any shiny, curly wood to increase the sale value. It has some pretty good characotence, and it can have some AMAZING curl Unfortuanly, that same curl makes it a favorite of guitar and veneer makers who drive up its price. Weight and hardness are subpar. While its weight is in the neighborhood of red oak, it has a les robust pore structure and over all a fair bit softer. It would be a candidate for stabilization.

I would however first send some test pieces, as some of the heartwood extracts the book lists are both thermo and photo reactive, so there is a chance you could have color shift from the heat of stabilization. Definitely keep the wood out of direct sunlight though.

And i know you dont REALLY want to buy anything else from me, but I am milling up a bunch of veneer grade burls soon, as well as my blood red manzinta burl and the two tone buckeye I just got back from K&G, so keep an eye out Marc.

Damn it Ben. I need a better job or get a knifemaker membership and start selling some knives. I have a nice super tight burl Satinwood (Pyinma) blank which I cut up into blocks. They will be stabilized. It's a pale tan in color, like a pine. How much darker will it get in sunlight or as a result of the stabilization? I don't care if it gets darker but I'd hate to have the figure fade. By the way, I have a couple of wood bibles. I should just crack the things open myself but it's easier to have you do the work. ;)

There is nothing to indicate a SERIOUS darkening, most likely just a little darker.

There is nothing to indicate a loss of figure. The description simple describes "possible color shift from light or heat exposure"

Shoot me an email. I may be interested in trading for some pyinma blocks.
