Iroquois Hawk

Based on early Iroquois museum collection pieces from the 1750's thru the Revolutionary War period, this hawk is hand forged from a used ball peen hammer head. High carbon tool steel ...I'm guessing it's L6, as it appears to have a high chromium and nickel content. Hardened and tempered cutting edge. Square spike. Rounded butt haft with tapered grip area. Forge marks are visible.

Overall length: 24 1/4"

Head length: 7"

Cutting edge: 3 1/16"

Spike length: 2 1/2"

Thickness: 1 5/16"

Haft: Recycled mahogany from old ship's hatch cover plank, with artificial sinew wrap at grip and hawk head

Top cap and wedge: Cable damascus

Weight: approx. 1.5 lbs

Price: $275 shipped in the continental USA. Reduced price: $250 shipped CONUS

Thanks for the kind words.

Comments and/or feedback, good or bad, is always appreciated.

Judging by a simple perusal of eBay for 'tomahawk', the real money appears to be in banging out fake hawks and passing them off as 'authentic' to gullible buyers.
None of said hawks being, I might add, the real McCoy.

Thanks for the kind words! Christmas is a long way away though :) (just kidding!!!)

The pictures don't really do this one justice (heck, I'm a lousy photographer, I'll admit it). I imagine this one looks similar to what a hawk would have looked like when first procured by an Indian brave in the 1700's ...brand spank'n new. And I don't imagine the Indians decorated their hawks to make them look 'old' :)

Anyways, it's funny how many reenactors want 'antique' looking weapons ...as they sure as heck didn't look 'antique' when the Indians and/or Colonists originally carried them. Ditto for cowboy (CAS) gear/guns. Go figure :)

Nothing happening here?

True story: My father-in-law, who is a registered Native American, has his eye on this one. Hi Dad! :)
