im going to be finishing my forced air forge and going to be using kast-o-lite 30. the tank im using is 16" long and 8" in Diamater. if i do a 6" chamber i onley need 18 pounds but that gives me a 1" thick wall. if i do a 4" chamber i need 31 pounds and i have 2" thick walls but longer time to come up to temp. could i get away with 1" thick walls? any ideas

In a poured refractory, you can use a thinner wall. 1" should do fine for a small forge like that. If you have any questions just ask Darren Ellis. He's the man when it comes to refractory products and information.

its just so exspensize to ship so if i could get away with 20 pounds that would be sweet.

Shipping from Darren is done in flat rate boxes. Shipping is usually cheap.

If you do a castable the ITC is really not necessary at least IMHO. I tried it on a castable forge and could not notice an increase in efficiency. If it was a wool liner then the ITC would protect the Inswool and increase upper range from 2300-2500aprox.

itc-100 will increase the efficiency of the forge and bubble alumina will go a long way in protecting your forge from flux. I say coat the whole thing in itc and put alumina on the bottom where the flux will gather.
