Scored an OLD Wilton for $200 off of CL with a stand He had it as a 2"x36" sander. :-) He said "the only thing it's good for is grindin metal!"

Trying to add a picture from my iPhone.

I didn't NEED it, but......

The drive, tracking and idler wheels are all Micarta. Were they from the factory? The drive is machined with weight reduction holes and everything. Sweet.

It came on a handy dandy stand. I'll likely pull it off of it.
The belt would NOT track. But, the tracking wheel isn't crowned and the platen was wayyyy back and the tension arm was maxed out. I could almost get the belts off with full tension, so a little adjustment and it should be good to go.(thanks Greg)...

Dropped it off at Greg Haile's to keep my GIB that I have there company.

Great deal.

There is something not right with a knifemaker who does not "Need" another grinder :)

I agree. I couldn't drive there fast enough!

It's in my car safe n sound.

My shop is only 8'x16'. So I'll have to limit it to just two 2"x72" grinders with my two 9" discs.

Brian, could you send me your email address? I wanted to ask you about RW Wilson's disc grinder stand you mentioned last week, but you have email turned off on your profile.

I think you got an ok deal. Round wheels work a bit better than square ones.

Sheesh. Why can't I find deals like this :grumpy:

Without too much buthchering you could lay it on its side, don't know too
many knifemakers that don't need a horizontal, certainly one of the most used
grinders in my shop.
Ken.

That's a good idea. I picked up some barrel hinges and am welding my GIB's stand up this week. I was going to make it convertible from vertical to horizontal. But now. Hmmmmm

I think you got a great deal. I bought a new Wilton Square Wheel Grinder back in 1981 for $450.00. I have used it to make hundreds of knives. It still runs great, and I still use it a lot.
You can adjust the belt tension by loosing the two allen head bolts that attach the platten to the machine and pulling the platen forward. That should also help with the tracking. I put a strip of tape in the middle of my tracking wheel, and that helps with the tracking.

Dude, you got ripped off. Since I'm such a nice guy, I'll just buy it off of you for what you paid for it, to make you feel better.

No, seriously.

I'll even let you keep the belts you got with it!
