is 3.5'' considered a BIG blade

Whether a knife is small/medium/large is a subjective determination, not objective. That is one of the reasons the laws of the land are different as to carry legality, as they are based on some arbitrary standards. Some one thought ...

Personally, I consider knives with 3.5" to 4.5" to be "just right" for daily carry. Therefore, that range is medium for me.

Please be advised that the old "probable cause" reason to search a person was nullified in practice by a Supreme Court ruling in the late 1990s. A law officer can search anyone for weapons based solely on their personal judgement of their safety. They do not have to have a "cause" such as a bulge or lump; they don't need cause based upon your behaviour. If they pat you down and feel anything in your pockets, they have the right to remove it to check to see if its a weapon. I speak from experience.

A law abiding American citizen no longer has the right to personal privacy. A law officer's fear trumps our personal rights. Its a sad day now that cops are so out of touch with people they view every citizen as a "bad guy," ... or perhaps its a sad day now that modern cops are too chicken to allow American citizens their personal liberty.

Looking at the size ranges in which folders are available and how many differen models are offered in each, I would say that 3.5 is the beginning of the large blades. There are few models out that are actually above 4". I would consider 2.75-3.5" medium and below 2.75 small. But it really depends on the knife and the shape of the blade aswell. I would consider the Lil' T a big knife, even though its bladelength is marginally above 3". I would never consider the Yojimbo smallish, even though it barly makes the cut as "medium" knife. There is more to size than just bladelength.

I personally consider 3.5 to be small. The ideal size for me is 3.90 ( alot of knives are made in that size and i'm guessing due to knife laws) to 4.5 at largest. This range would be medium if you considered those large folders such as the CUDA series however IMO 4.5 is fairly large.
